Osce results

Published

Hello,

I just got my Osce results, and CNO advisory report is, I have for competency gaps such as professional responsibility and accountability, ethics, self regulation and knowledge based practice. Please, anyone help me to find out the ways that I can fill up my competency gaps.

Thank you

What does your letter from CNO advise you to do? Do you need to take an IEN bridging program?

CNO advised me that I have to fill up my gaps by further education but how? They didn't mention it. The letter says that I am the one who is responsible to choose course which can fill up the gaps. And that particular school should be in the list of their approved colleges. That is the thing making me confuse what to do next? Because I don't know which bridging course can fill up these gaps? And which colleges running these type of courses

There is a new program "RN education competency based courses for internationally educated nurses (IENs)" that is set to start in the spring of 2017 (see rncompetencies.ca for more details). Other than the new program, there are IEN bridging programs offered at community colleges and York university.

I don't know if you are aware but you can get reliable advice from Care4nurses org

Vishim did you look at the eligibility criteria for the RN education competency based courses for IENs? It says "only IENs with competency gaps exclusively in one or more of the areas of ethical practice, self-regulation, professional responsibility and accountability, and service to the public will be eligible. If you have gaps in other areas you are not eligible." " you may need a baccalaureate IEN bridging program".

Hi Vishim,

I am in a very similar situation but I have not taken the OSCE.

There are only a few schools you can go to to fill in your gaps.

I have looked into Mohawk, Centennial, George Brown and York.

Most of the colleges have 1-2 year programs and then you have to continue to a University to complete BScN.

York is the only University in Toronto area that offers program for IENs to get them straight to Bachelor's degree.

With the new competency gaps coverage program, as dishes mentioned, only covers so much and you might not qualify for it based on the list of gaps. Also, it is not coming till next May.

I am in the same situation. Struggling to find means of addressing my competency gaps. I applied to York Uni but application wasn't successful. I have to wait another year.

I however heard about academic pathway certificate program designed for IENs at George Brown College. I'm wondering if anyone has passed that route and if the CNO recognize it as a means of addressing gaps for RN.

I'll appreciate if anyone has information about addressing wide gaps that even the recently approved schools can't address.

@Martcols, did you look at the courses offered through RNcompetencies.ca? It is a new program that is intended for IENs who have competency gaps exclusively in the areas of ethical practice, self regulation, professional responsibility, accountability and service to the public.
