Hi,
I'm in a dilemma on which unit should be a good unit to start as a new grad.
I need to choose between ortho med surg and neuro med surg unit. I eventually want to be a ER nurse and I'm not sure which unit experience would help me better to get me a job in the ER later on. Or is either unit doesn't really matter to get a job in the ER?
Ortho unit would be training me for about 4 months, and neuro unit's training is only for 6 weeks.
Please help.. Thanks in advance...

Why not apply for both and see what happens?
In general, the longer training program is probably the better bet. Which unit probably won't make a big difference, as both will benefit you in different ways in ED.

I would choose neuro because I think neuro is cooler than ortho.
But that is my opinion, everyone has their dept they belong in.
I never thought I would like it in nursing school, but I had some neuro overflow and I think strokes are very interesting..

It seems weird to me that the neuro training is THAT much shorter. Personally, if this was my first job, I would go with the one that offers the longer training period. (BTW, I'm even a not even a nursing student yet so my opinion is strictly theoretical.)
yea,, I would choose the neuro in a heartbeat if the training was longer than 6 weeks... It's at two different hospitals..... and I still can't make up my mind thanks all for your input!!

Have you had offers in both? If so, I would go with the one that has the longer training. If not, wait to see which one offers you the job (apply for both), chances are you may only get an offer from one and that will make u your mind for you!
you can ask them to extend the training.
