Orlando Tech LPN January 2009

Published

I'm slated to begin the LPN program at Orlando Tech in January.. anyone else?

Did anyone take the test that you can take if you're already a CNA? I take it on Monday and I'm nervous because we weren't told what was on the test or what to study. I asked if it was similar to the state CNA exam and the lady said it was harder. Any insight would be great!

I'm not taking the test, but one of the women in our class said her friend took that test and said it has a lot of hospital questions on it.

Four people in our class took the test. You need to score an 88 or higher. It is definitely harder than the state exam but all four of us passed. If you pass you'll start about four weeks later. The class wasn't finished with their clinicals at the nursing home at the end of those four weeks so we still had 3 days off for a few more weeks til they finished. Get ready for a lot of work!!! This program definitely has a lot of information packed into a year so it is intense! I had a full-time job when I started but realized I needed to go part-time. Luckily I have no job now 'cause it makes it alot better to handle.

Good Luck!

Hello! By now most of you students have already graduated or getting ready to graduate! I am scheduled to start this August and just wanted to know how did yall enjoy the program???

The program sucks! The tests were made years ago and have tons of invalid questions. No one at O Tech knows what they are doing. Super unorganized!! If you're planning on becoming a RN (which you pretty much have to do if you want a job) then I would look into Valencia or Seminole concurrent programs. Hospitals do not hire LPNs and they want nurses to have a bachelors degree. If you go to O Tech be prepared to be confused for the next year. The info is easy to learn but the tests are confusing. Lots of down time in class where you're told to just study. If you have college credits in anatomy, nutrition, or psychology you're able to not take those portions of the class. The policy was that you still had to sit in class though. I sat in class and paid money to read magazines for a month before they finally allowed me to not come to class.

Oh wowwwwww!! Yeah I am almost done with my prerequisites at Valencia...so I definitely do plan in continuing forward to getting my RN. I have just recently obtained my CNA..currently job hunting..moving forward to LPN...RN...BSN. For financial reasons I wasn't able to just go straight for BSN...so I'm taking it step by step. But that sucks that the program is kinda unorganized...but I will make the best out of it because I know what my ultimate goal is!! So have u already graduated??

I ended up quiting the program half way through because I felt that going another route was better for me. If you're a CNA you can take a test the first day at O Tech and get out of a few weeks if you pass. The test is not like the state exam. It asks a bunch of medical terminology questions. It's also a test with invalid questions that would be thrown out at a "real" school. A few of us passed it though. Class for at least the first 6 months consists of copying down power points all day and watching videos. Most questions on tests are scenarios so just look over your notes and you'll be fine. I didn't really use the books much. Some people did study groups but those of us who studied on our own did better on the tests. The NCLEX questions in the book are used on some tests. I have size xs tops and size xs petite bottoms if you're that size and want to buy them from me for cheap. Buy at least 3 tops and 3 bottoms. Some people were gross and didn't wash their uniforms after wearing them but that's just nasty, especially for someone who is in the healthcare field!

Oh okay! Well what works for one may not work for others and vic versa! I will put my best foot forward and learn as much as I can to prepare me for boards. Thank you sooo much for offering to sell your uniforms to me..but I'm not a size xs..thank u you anyways!! I wish you well in whatever route you are currently pursuing!!:up: :) :)
