Orlando School Admissions

Hi guys I've just joined the forum and am investigating ADN courses in nursing schools in the Orlando area. The two I'm currently looking at are Seminole Community College and Herzing CC. I've just spoken to Herzing and they said that 500 students will sit the NET for 24 places in July. Is this level of competition normal for nursing schools? All I know about Seminole is that you enrol for General Education courses and a few pre-req's and then when these are complete you sit the NET. What happens then? Could you end up not getting a place even though you passed the test and have been studying at the college for months? I'm amazed that ADN programmes are this competitive, or is it only at Herzing Community College? Any help or info would be great. Thanks, micaela

it is fresh in orlando but they are already accredited in melbourne!

i attend seminole community college, currently working on my pre-reqs. as a few mentioned scc does not have a waiting list and the best thing about them is they have 2 nursing programs you can apply. day program starts in sept and night program starts in january. both classes have 100 seats. so if you don't get in one you can apply for the other. all pre-reqs have to be completed with a minimun gpa of 3.00 however, you want it close to 4.0 as possible to be more competitve and a passing net score. if you don't get in either you re-apply for next year. they recently built a brand new facility with state of the art nursing equipment, and they have a great nclex passing rate and inexpensive too! seems to me you may have the best chance getting in at scc than any other.

i live in kissimmee with one of the valencia campuses less than 10 minutes from my home but scc is approx 45 min drive but they are my first choice.

Hi,

Has anyone gone to the Herzing Orlando program? Did you feel you received a quality education and have you been able to get a job at a local hospital? I'm trying to decide if I should go to this school. Any feedback would be helpful. :)

i'm not sure what's going on in keiser, but now on the nlna.org website, it states that lakeland is the campus where they are accreditted.

one of the members here stated that all the campuses are accreditted, but lakeland is listed because it is the main campus where the ean of the nursing program is at.

but that sounds strange to me, because i come from a school that has 3 campuses, and the campuses are listed as satelite campuses on the nlna website.

i emailed the nlnac to question the keiser program, but have not heard a response from them yet.

in the keiseruniversity website, it states that the keiser program is approved by the florida state board of nursing--- but no where on the website does it state that they are nlnac certified.

oh, also, on the keiseruniversity website it states that their associate degrees are non-transferable-- im not sure if this includes the nursing program or not.

this is definitely how false information gets spread around and people bypass a great program because they read incorrect information. i understand how everyone should be cautious, but statements should be based on facts. i called the nlnac today at 4:55pm and a representative took down my email and responded to my inquiry at 5:09pm. she confimed that the melbourne campus is accredited by the nlnac. apparently the lakeland, melbourne, ft. lauderdale, orlando, jacksonville, kendall, sarasota, tallahassee and west palm beach campuses are nlnac accredited. if anyone has any doubts, i suggest conducting your own research and call them yourselves 1-866-747-9965. if you want me to forward the email to you, just pm me.

the site does say that it is accredited by the nlnac go to http://keiseruniversity.edu/accreditation.php . under the programmatic heading go down to the 10th and 11th paragraphs and you will see what you claimed wasn't there to begin with. it seems like you are very misinformed and are spreading false information. i attend keiser university lakeland campus and so far i've had a great experience. this is like the 4th thread where you have spread false information. i'm not saying this is the best program out there because i don't attend those other programs, but you are giving false information to people that come to this site looking for advice and help regarding a very stressful decision. i suggest telling them to do their own homework and fact checking. you seem so confident in what you are saying, but you are so obviously wrong.

as far as a as not being transferable, what constitutes as a transferable degree is an aa degree. hcc says the same thing about their as degrees. many colleges and universities will accept your aa degree because it can be incorporated into many of their programs and you just pick up where you left off. in many cases you may transfer many of your classes taken via an as, but an aa degree signifies you have taken all required gen ed classes such as humanities, public speaking, literature, ethics, etc. an asn degree from keiseru can be transfered to another nursing program because it's regionally accredited.

as i said before keiser university is sacs accredited that means it is accredited by the same regional accrediting body as hcc, usf, ucf, phcc and st. pete college to name a few. i did my homework before i decided to apply at keiser because my money and how i spend it is very important to me. yes, the program is more expensive, but some of us have made informed decisions about our education and the cost of it.
