I'm so excited! I think tomorrow I will finally feel like I'm starting down my nursing journey! I cant wait to absorb everything tomorrow. Sorry, this really has no point, but I just had to let my excitement out somewhere:D
Mine is next Thursday. I was wondering if anyone did their drug test on-site there. I have completed the medical requirements (titers, physical, TB test, etc.) but haven't done the drug test. On the "congratulations" letter, it states the more info will be given at the orientation, but it also lists that the deadline is the same day as the orientation. So, I was wondering if any others had the urine test as part of the orientation.
At my orientation we were given a list of things that needed to be completed with a deadline. We were required to purchase an online subscription to a background and data storage company that the school can reference for each student. This is where we uploaded our CPR certs and immunization/titer records as well as scheduled background checks and drug tests. That was $180 for the package. We were given instructions for ordering uniforms, too. Definitely take a pen and notebook, you'll reference your notes over and over just to make sure you're following all instructions! ;-) We didn't have the option to miss orientation, if we did- we lost our seat in the class. It was basically 4 hours of questions and answers but VERY necessary! Good luck :-)
thanks....we were emailed a handbook that we need to sign and hand in the first day of class. also emailed was a detailed list of what we needed before the first day-uniforms,scopes and cuff, our CPR certification, and other....
i emailed the school with my conflict and they said it was fine and took me off the orientation list. I will be in touch with my advisor to clairfy though.
it is exciting!!
Hello,For all of you who have had orientation. What exactly did you do? what did the dean/advisors talk about? Did they tell you everything you all ready knew? I ask this, cause I will not be going to mine. I have to work and I cannot get it off. I am the only LPN on the schedule for that day and need to be there. Plus,I have been taking pre-reqs at this school for 2 yrs and did an adult LPN program there 5 years ago,AND went to college/graduated from there in the early 80s. I have my schedule and my books. I know where to go to find my advisor and/or dean. Will I really miss anything? thanks!!
Are you sure you are allowed to miss orientation. I know that in the RN program I am in it is mandatory. They will kick you out of the program if you don't attend. Just wanted to to make sure because I know of people this happened to and it would be devastating to lose your spot in the program after all you had to do to get accepted
Okay, I had my orientation today. I have a few tips for people who have not had theres yet. Now, I am going off of what my school did but it may give you an idea of what to expect. First, get there early! I got there about 40 minutes early and I'm so glad I did, there were huge lines just to sign in and get some paperwork, then it was off for a urine drug screen. That part took forever!!! Now, this was orientation day for ALOT of other people in the Health Science programs such as Surg Techs, Dental Assistants, MA's, O/T, and P/T assistant programs and of course Nurses. So they were crammed in with us for the first part of orientation, then we split off to our own sections and got the rest. We had people from all over the nursing division talk, some of the instructors, financial aid, the disability resouce center, people from the student nurse association, and other schools that are looking to recruit for the RN-BSN program. It was very informative and exciting. I would recommend people take money with them because you can buy nursing gear and scrubs from some of the vendors that show up. Oh, and something to carry that stuff in. I took a book bag for the extra stuff I took home. Of course take something to write with and to write on. I took a bottle of water and snacks. And make sure if there are any forms to turn in that you have them with you. So many people there did not follow through with what they needed to bring and had to scamble to get stuff while there. One of the professors who spoke gave some great tips about dealing with nursing school, she said to be organized, make sure you have a calendar and that all that you need to do is planned out, always read the text before class and any powerpoints there may be, get at least 7 hours a sleep a night and take care of yourself. NEVER be late for your tests or you may not get to take them, join study groups, practice skills as much as possible, and to study in blocks, so take breaks while studying so you don't get burned out. So, that is a bit what we learned and went through for orientation today. I hope this helps.
