  1. I start nursing school in a few weeks. I have never stuck someone with a needle, but I've been stuck with a needle plenty of times over the years. I do not enjoy it (who does?), but I wanted to give myself a bit more exposure to the whole process, so I donated plasma for a few months. Kind of a weird approach, but I was able to make a little bit of $ and also observe the whole process. We'll see if it worked!
  2. We have two choices for ADN nursing here (community college and a vocational college), and they both offer part time/hybrid programs. So, instead of the typical 4-5 full time days a week, these programs offer classes online/evenings/2 or so days a week. I think that would give you a bit more flexibility and allow you to work. Granted, it will take a bit longer. But, not everyone has the ability to just quit their job to attent nursing school full time! Good luck!
  3. I find that I am able to balance some of the books onto the treadmill or eliptical. All that sitting makes my back and shoulders just knot up, so I try to read while I'm moving something! I am trying to lose weight and don't want to have to buy new scrubs too!
  4. We are required to complete our NAC training and be on the state registry here in WA state. I start my ADN program in 3 weeks, so I don't know if they don't spend as much time on them. But, at our orientation last month, the instructor did say to brush up on the skills over the summer as we would be practicing them in the lab and then being tested on them.
  5. Have you had someone else (fellow student or instructor) try them out to see if they have the same problem?
  6. I start on Sept. 27...seems so late compared to most of you! Will still graduate in the Spring of 2014 though...seems so far away, but I know these two years will no drag!
  7. I think she means that she struggled with it previously, but after only five minutes of instruction, she has it down pat! WTG, Superstar!
  8. Were you at the Orientation session last month?
  9. I personally enjoyed taking one science at a time...I found each one of them built onto the next. It seemed to flow better for me and helped with my understanding it all. Started with Bio, then A&P, Chemistry, and finally Micro. You may have a application deadline to meet, which sometimes requires an unusual courseload. Good luck!
  10. Which schools in WA are you looking at? I am in NW WA and will be starting the ADN program at Whatcom Community College next month. There are two other ADN programs, Bellingham Technical College and Skagit Community College, and one local BSN, UW Bothell at Skagit.
  11. This is something that has crossed my mind as well. The best time (for me) has always been in the morning. I've enjoyed doing bodyrock.com as it's usually only 12 minutes...keep on telling myself that I can find 12 minutes. Otherwise, I am hoping to hit the eliptical or treadmill and either listen to online lectures or while reading from one of our many nursing books. Good luck!
  12. That makes sense...just wish they hadn't listed the deadline as the same day as the orientation! Makes me think I'm missing something...
  13. Mine is next Thursday. I was wondering if anyone did their drug test on-site there. I have completed the medical requirements (titers, physical, TB test, etc.) but haven't done the drug test. On the "congratulations" letter, it states the more info will be given at the orientation, but it also lists that the deadline is the same day as the orientation. So, I was wondering if any others had the urine test as part of the orientation.
  14. My dream nursing career would be a labor and delivery nurse. I am done having kids, but I still am drawn to it. Have always felt drawn towards something to do with pregnancy and just about everything that goes along with it.
  15. I wondered about this as well. Got my first shot this week, second one is at least 30 days after the first, third one is at least 4 months after the first. My letter states that I cannot do clinicals until the third shot it complete....that would put me one month after school starts. I would have thought that they would give you enough time to complete the entire series or shots or at least proof that you are in progress. Do you have an orientation soon? I will be asking them at mine...good luck!
