Hi all,
I am applying for 6 Oregon nursing schools this year. Lane Community College (LCC), Oregon Health and Science University Ashland (OHSU), Umpqua Community College (UCC), Mt Hood Community College (MHCC), Southwestern Oregon Community College (SWOCC), and George Fox University.
Anyone else applying to any of these schools? Last year I was waitlisted at Ashland OHSU and rejected from LCC. I have a 4.0 GPA, volunteer experience, 3 years CNA work experience, leadership experience, two associates degrees, and Spanish as a second language. Good luck out there everyone!
These schools in Oregon are no joke with how competitive they are!

I applied to 6 schools, 4 in Oregon. I was also waitlisted at OHSU Ashland & RCC last year. They were the only 2 schools I applied to my first try. For Fall 2022 I applied to Oregon Health and Science University Ashland (OHSU), Umpqua Community, Rogue Community, Linfield University, Columbia Basin College, & Belmont University. My GPA is 3.75, volunteer, 3 years CNA 2, Leadership, Bachelor of science. I do not have a second language. My biggest downfall, I think, is retaking A&P I (I received a B, retook for the A) my advisor at SOU told me it had to be an A. Unfortunately, all the community colleges with point systems, I lose the 2-4 points for that retake, I also lose the points for not taking my prerequisites at their school. Do you mind me asking where you took your prerequisites & why you chose the Ashland campus?

Hi! I didn’t see that you created this thread!! I created one too yesterday for the 2022 application cycle. I applied for 5 schools this year. I applied to 3 schools last year and made it to the interview process but didn’t get accepted or waitlisted. Looks like both of you are trying for schools outside of the Portland area. This year applied to PCC, CCC, Mt. Hood, OHSU Monmouth campus and Columbia gorge community college in The Dalles.
Both of your experiences sound great! It’s a shame Oregon nursing schools don’t accept more spots in their programs. We know they there’s a huge nursing shortage right now. I’ve worked the past 4 years in the ER and this past year we’ve had over 50 nurses quit. Half of our staff are travel nurses. And some of the nurses quit the healthcare field all together. So I’m not sure what this cycle is going to look like for us! I was thinking less people were wanting to apply and that nursing doesn’t seem very appealing to people anymore but I could be wrong. Either way, I’m still going for it! This is my 10th year working as a CNA. I’m definitely ready to move forward with nursing school!!
I think we should be hearing back hopefully soon! Beginning of April?
Good luck!! I believe OHSU started sending invites today. They have 5 campuses (as you know), not sure if they notify all campuses the same day or not.
Good luck to you both! I received an email from UCC on 3/18 inviting me to their proctored essay (I'll be in the morning session, maybe I will see you there Kitty-22?) and I received an email from OHSU Ashland on 3/18 inviting me to a MOCK interview. So far no invite to the actual interview for OHSU yet. I saw the other thread where someone mentioned if OHSU doesn't send out their invites on 3/18 it will be today so I am anxiously checking my email!
I highly recommend booking a couple of mock interviews on Fiverr if you are able to. I did one with Natalie_Coach on Fiverr today and she was able to give me a lot of really good feedback. I am very happy OHSU offers a mock interview as well, it will be great practice! I don't know about you but interviews are not something that just comes naturally to me. I like to understand the rubric ahead of time and be prepared as much as possible.
As for my other schools, I will find out from MHCC any day (could be tomorrow, could be two weeks from now!) if I get an essay with them. Lane CC will notify me on April 7th, and SWOCC will be the last of all with their essay being on May 3rd.
Kitty-22, I took my prerequisites at Lane Community College and I chose Ashland campus because 1) it seemed like a better chance of admittance than Portland and 2) I really like the town of Ashland. For every branch of OHSU I would have to move my entire life to attend their school, and Ashland is the town where I could see myself living there the most. As for why I chose to apply to OHSU, despite the highly competitive nature of it all, I really admire OHSU's innovation in science and healthcare. I also appreciate their focus on exploring diversity and how healthcare can be improved in that regard. It is a very highly regarded school with values that I see reflected in myself.

Congratulations! I also received an email from UCC on 3/18 Inviting me to their proctored essay (afternoon session), OHSU mock interview invite arrived the same day. RCC & Linfield will come around May. I’m 11th on the waitlist at Belmont in Nashville for the accelerated program. Good luck to everyone ❤️❤️

I was just notified today that I have been selected to move on to Phase II of the application process at PCC. So exiting!
Congratulations!! I did not. Fingers crossed for CCC!
Thank you! My fingers and toes are crossed for you too, good luck!
You’re sweet. Thank you!
How did everyone feel who did the OHSU Ashland interview? I have to say I loved the process this year compared to last year! An essay plus an interview was far more stressful than an interview where I get to review the questions ahead of time. last year Ashland sent out notification of my waitlist position on Friday April 9th so I am thinking I’ll know my results by the 15th this year at the latest! Maybe as early as the 8th. good luck to everyone going through this nerve wracking process!
