Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) ABSN 2020

Hi,

I can’t find a thread for this program so figured I would start one. I was wondering if anyone has got a confirmation their application was received?

Chelsea

I'm in the Winter cohort, the deadline I was given was April 3.

OK. So around 3 weeks for the accepted applicants to make a decision. Hopefully us Ashland folks on the highly likely list will start hearing back after April 13th if anyone turns it down!

Hey everyone! First time posting on here. Received the email yesterday that I was accepted into the Ashland ABSN Summer cohort. The email said official offer letters will go out this week. I'll let you guys know when I hear any other info. Looking forward to meeting the rest of our cohort. Good luck and CONGRATS to everyone! ❤️

Hey everyone! I too got my acceptance email yesterday evening. Super excited to meet you all and CONGRATS to everyone in this process! ❤️

Congratulations to all accepted! I can't wait to meet everyone.

I have so many questions - do you think we'll start Summer online? Do you think we'll get our financial aid packet (I even wonder how student loans will work during the current economic state) with the formal letter?

I'm so torn between staying at the hospital I work at during this time of crisis too. My telling them I will need to leave is not exactly something I'm excited to do at this time because they need people right now (I'll need to resign a couple of weeks before normal too because I want to quarantine myself before going to school)...anyone else feeling the same way?

Specializes in Oncology Clinical Research.

@kangaroo I still haven't received financial aid info (I'm in the Summer cohort for Portland), so I'm not sure when we can expect it.

I suspect Summer term will be online since clinicals don't start in the first term anyway.

I currently work at OHSU and I totally know how you feel. I ended up turning down an acceptance to Hopkins because I just can't fathom moving across the country with my partner in the midst of this when I can stay here and know that I at least have a job.

Thank you @orneryscientist!

Maybe I'll inquire about financial aid when we get the formal letter.

And congratulations on Hopkins and OHSU!

So grateful for this forum and the community it builds.

To those on the Ashland waitlist - I just received my formal letter and they said we need to notify them by April 10th. :)

Hello - to anyone accepting the OHSU ABSN Summer program but is out of state, what will you all do if the stay at home orders are still in place? My biggest concern is actually being able to find housing and if anyone will want to rent out to me coming in from Washington State. Maybe, I'm thinking about this too early since a lot can change in 2 months...but trying to plan is proving to be a little more difficult than expected.

Yeah that's a tough one! I think it's totally doable to move though, it just will take extra planning and stress. My partner and I were thinking about moving, but I'm naturally on the anxious side so I decided it wasn't worth it (mostly because my partner currently is employed here and finding a new job at the moment would be horrible.) If I remember correctly OR stay at home act has no end date, and I suspect it will be in place when you want to move. I would recommend talking to rental companies/rental truck companies and telling them your situation, I feel like moving for school would be considered essential travel. I currently rent from CPM realty (https://listings.cpmrealestateservices.com/?_yTrackUser=NzQzMzAxNzc1IzE0Mjc2NTY3Nzc=-/VqJxEw6gI0=&_yTrackVisit=MTM3MzI4Mzc0NyM1MjUxOTAwODA%3d-eHc5GJ%2fXYN8%3d&_yTrackReqDT=04431920203103) and have found they are pretty responsive with requests, repairs etc and I think it would be easier to rent from a larger company than, say, someone you find on Craigslist, in this current situation. I'd request the apartment to be cleaned etc - I requested mine to be painted and cleaned when I moved in and they were really nice about it. I bet if you contacted them ahead of time they'd be happy to work with you, do online tours, etc. If there is anything you need for your apartment in terms of housewares (or school supplies for that matter) your life will be easier if you order it in Seattle. I ordered something on Amazon and it's showing up April 28, meanwhile I ordered my sister non essential colouring books for her bday and they arrived same day in Everett....

Let me know if you have any questions for someone who lives here! I certainly have plenty of free time on my hands haha

I'm moving in two days ?‍♀️ Just from one hour away from OHSU to 20 minutes away, but it's still pretty stressful. I found the perfect house a couple days before the stay at home order and didn't want to lose it. It's through CPM, and they've been great about making things work. They do have rules where you have to tour a place before you can officially have your application processed though, so out of state moving might be trickier unless you know someone here already who could go take a look at it for you.

Movers and moving trucks are considered an essential service at the federal level, at least, so you won't have to worry about those being shut down.

thank you @Catsandcoffeecakes and @ohjoy (good luck on your move)! I guess the good thing is I actually don't have that much to bring. I figure 15 months I won't need to bring everything with me. I'll look into CPM, that information is super helpful!

I hope to meet you both soon! THANK YOU!

Oh! And are you both in Ashland or just right outside?
