Ashland applicants! Every year the interviews have a Q&A portion with current students, we had a lot of our ABS cohort wanting to be there with all of you to answer questions concerning the program, class/term flow, time management & home life, student clubs, and more!

Due to the online nature of the interview process now, they randomly selected a few students to be there for questions you may have after the interviews so a bunch of us with different perspectives and experiences won't be there to chat with you.

I'm in the ABS program and was super excited to meet everyone applying to the next cohort and answer questions you may have. Feel free to MESSAGE me or post questions after your interviews (preferably anytime after Saturday afternoon).

This is awesome, thank you @caringkevin! I was wondering what the student panel was and now that makes sense. I'll write a few questions down that I have to bring up during that aspect of the forum. And Thank You again!

Does anyone have concerns about Covid-19 and how this will affect the program? I am reading that in CA, nursing students are being told they will not graduate on time, due to loss of clinical rotations. Hospitals are cancelling/stopping nursing student rotations due to tighter regulations. I also have concerns about how class content will be delivered, if they are to cancel classes...

What are your thoughts?

As a current student, I can tell you that our in hospital clinicals have been canceled through April 27th. Since you won't be starting until Summer/Fall/Winter, you will probably be alright - the earliest you would have an in hospital clinical is Fall term (your second term).

The hospital and nursing school has been doing a tireless job keeping all of us updated on changes to curriculum and OHSU-wide operations every single day. I would not worry about COVID-19 affecting your education yet.

Yes I felt a bit concerned when hearing the updates, but not extremely concerned yet! In a recent email to employees, they did cancel pretty much all clinical arrangements for now along with firming up the visitor policy. I’m hopeful that there will be some improvement of the situation in June - perhaps vaccine research will be further along. But from what I understand, in the first term of the program, clinicals are simulation based (so I think no patient contact in the first term). So that buys a bit more time too. Don’t worry just yet!

Yesterday morning I got an email with an electronic copy of the admissions packet. The Admissions Office is working remotely so I am sure it is just taking a bit longer to get sent out to everyone.

I completely missed this! I was buried with work and interview prep during the weeks leading up to last Friday-- we probably all were ?. What did you think of the videoconference format? That's the first admissions interview I've ever done that was conducted remotely.

Hey! Yeah we all had far too much going on!

It was my first virtual interview ever. I didn't too much enjoy the video interview.....I couldn't 100% hear one of them, and just felt less professional at my kitchen table. Ah well! Hope it went well for you!!
