  1. I'm in the current ABSN program and we are entering our final term for integrated practicum and we also have no updates. I know our clinical partners, faculty, and dean are all advocating for our class to return to the hospital but it's up to the Governor at this point. Hospitals have a lot of changes going on right now (furloughs, low census, and lots of nurses floating) which makes clinical placement difficult. Three months away and its stressful, but flexibility is highly valued. Keep a journal, helpful for interviews!
  2. We will be in IP this Summer, and that is still uncertain if we will be in the hospital. Under normal circumstances, OHSU takes feedback from students and community partners to plan the next term, often times the plan for a term is not finalized until a week or two before it starts. This is to ensure and match the needs of the community and students alike. As far as Summer online, I know they are preparing for the possibility but so is the country at this point, as we wait to see how gradually we become social again. This term is an excellent example of the flexibility nursing requires, sure it's a struggle, but 4 weeks into it, a lot of us are feeling adapted to the online courses and OHSU reiterates they want us back in person as soon as its responsibly safe to do so.
  3. SOU housing can be difficult to get only due to the time window being the end of their year. Last year, I applied in early April and SOU said the same thing, OHSU has to confirm the whole cohort. This is only half true, SOU can take a while to process the application. I called every week and showed up in person for three weeks in May. They finally called my first housing reference on May 25, more than a 5 weeks after I applied. The time window to find a place and feel comfortable before starting was too tight for my wife and I, so we ended up looking elsewhere. Mine is just a cautionary tale, don't expect SOU housing by waiting until they try to process the applications. I heard there is new staff in the housing office at SOU, but we spent weeks paying for temporary housing and Airbnb in hopes for $800/month family housing and it finally processed June 28, a month after we signed a lease.
  4. I am in the current ABS class in Ashland. I have a Mac and I do not have any issues. Definitely download the most recent version of Google Chrome, other browsers have issues with some of the online software.
  5. As a current student I can say they are accommodating all of us with best efforts to meet the high standards and keep us on the same graduating schedule. We already utilized an online clinical program for leadership this past term. I would bet they continue as planned and will have a better sense of online clinical settings and open lab schedules and simulations.
  6. Ashland applicants! Every year the interviews have a Q&A portion with current students, we had a lot of our ABS cohort wanting to be there with all of you to answer questions concerning the program, class/term flow, time management & home life, student clubs, and more! Due to the online nature of the interview process now, they randomly selected a few students to be there for questions you may have after the interviews so a bunch of us with different perspectives and experiences won't be there to chat with you. I'm in the ABS program and was super excited to meet everyone applying to the next cohort and answer questions you may have. Feel free to MESSAGE me or post questions after your interviews (preferably anytime after Saturday afternoon). Good luck and have fun with the process!
  7. It takes about three weeks, some people hear back in two weeks. I can't say for sure because I'm not any part of the decision making process but acceptance letters are sent out via email. Some years, every person who receives a letter accepts their spot in the program. A few years ago there were more declines and in the third and fourth week after interviews acceptance letters for people on the waitlist were still being sent out. After all the spots are filled the final emails are sent out to let all interviews without acceptance letters that spots have been filled. Last year I was sent a waitlist email (which was ranked in some way, likely, most likely) and then an acceptance email a week later. Communication at OHSU is great during this process, call anytime they will tell you what they can!
  8. I'm in the accelerated program and I'll share a few of my thoughts. I was exactly where you are now, this time last year. Liz is giving you the most honest advice...it's hard to prepare completely for the interview, let alone an accelerate nursing program. On paper, I barely met all the criteria for the application...barely. I received an email inviting me to interview! 350+ people applied to the program and I was picked to interview?! Unreal. My undergraduate GPA was poor, and I was doing what you are doing right now. Pouring over posts, trying to get a sense of the application pool, stressed about the interview, feeling grateful I was invited for an interview, but am I even in the running? My wife and I were planning on how we were move to Philadelphia, New York, and other back up schools that I had been accepted to up to that point. I almost wrote myself off. What made the difference? I knew my goal had been the OHSU ABSN program, I knew why I wanted to be a nurse, and I knew I could accept the challenge of the ABSN. The biggest lesson I took away from the interview process? You are competing against yourself. Best of luck!
