Wow this was a stressful admissions process but in the end we all made it out alive.
Figured we needed a place to meet and greet each other, discuss classes, and give everyone a helping hand when we need it (and lord knows we will need it somewhere on our journey through school!!!!
I love Dansko's but definitely won't spend the money on a pair for nursing school. Plus, as a CNA, they really aren't practical; I've had my fair share of sprained ankles trying to make them work at my job. Now I just wear athletic shoes. Unfortunately, those aren't leather. I do have a white pair of leather shoes I got for my CNA class. I bought them from the Goodwill for less than 10 bucks. They definitely aren't the most fashionable shoes, but I might wear them for nursing school.
Now that we're talking gear, what about stethoscopes? Definitely a Littman, but which one? What are you guys looking at?
Also, mamakac, while searching for preschools w/ toddler programs, I'm seeing a lot of co-op preschools that are part time (9-noon/2 days a week). Plus since you (or your hubby) would volunteer, your tuition at the preschool is lower. Plus, you gotta love the memberships to Children's Museum or OMSI for rainy days!
This has been a very important blog and I think also put a line or two. Finally got accepted to the Program. I was waitlist number 32 and today am in yay! I got accepted in TX and was planning on moving by end of this month but luckily I don't have to deal with all that moving stuff anymore but rather tackle the task on hand..
I'm going to start research on buying text books starting this week and planing to go as cheap as I can.Good luck to everyone..
I'm doing CPR next week, turning in all my financial aid paperwork and vaccine info etc. I'm waiting to buy books because I want to be sure they match up with the ones at the bookstore. I'm trying to find cheap books online and so far from what I've found I would save only about $200. Not much, but a little bit helps. When is everyone else planning on buying books and anyone know of any good websites to purchase them besides the PCC bookstore? I'm buying scrubs and shoes last. I know someone in 2nd year and she got cheap white Reebok shoes and they are only required for clinicals so it's best to keep it cheap, simple, but still comfy :)
Hey fellow classmates:) I am wondering if anyone else needs to have their CPR certification done still? I am in contact with a person who teaches a class at St Vincent Medical Center, if anyone would like to join? The cost is $30 plus $3 for a card.....it's a 4 hr class. Let me know if you would like to join asap, as I am trying to get it done sooner rather than later:) I will keep you posted on date and time! Thanks,
Valeria
PS: any tips on uniforms, lab coats, stethoscope, blood pressure cuffs etc?
I just wanted to let you guys know about a childcare place with extended hours. Although, this is not near Sylvania campus, it is the only one I found in the area that it open till 11pm and on weekends! I used it for my daughter last year and she loved it there. Its $6/hr with 2 hr minimum. Here is their site

Where and when are you getting your CPR done Ready4Nursing, if you don't mind me asking? Thanks, Valeria[/quote']Hey Valeria,
I did mine at CHS (Cascade Healthcare Services) today actually. It's about 3 hours and $52. I was able to rent the $16 book from the library, and they did have extras at the training center in case you forget to bring the book. Here is a link if anyone is interested.
I just bought all of my uniform stuff for clinicals. I bought my uniforms from tafford.com. I swear by my Danskos that I wear for work so I bought a pair of white ones for clinicals. I know they are very expensive but I can't wear any other shoes and be on my feet for that long. I am a CNA and when I first started working in my running shoes (which I have ran many miles in), I would come home and be in so much pain I couldnt walk. After this, I bought Dankos and I have never had a problem with being in pain after work. So from my personal experience with shoes, I would highly recommend purchasing a pair for clinicals. For the scrubs part, I personally only like Koi brand. This is my personal preference, but I have tried all other brands and this one fits me the best. They are about $20-30 a piece, but worth the buy. I asked the nursing department about lab coat and the length because I bought a 32" and it seemed a little too long. They said it has to be hip length which I assume this is the 28" length. As for books I will be waiting to purchase until the "garage sale" thing at orientation. I have looked on amazon and will probably but them from there since I can't stand buying books that are highlighted/written in, but I think its worth looking at the "garage sale". Stethoscopes - I will buying the Littman Cardiology III. All the nurses I have worked with swear by this and say it will make hearing everything much easier and you can use it when you are actually a nurse because they last a long time. medisave.net is a good website for the stethoscopes and they often offer free shipping as well as free engraving. I have hear many nurses say to get an odd color so you know which one is yours and to engrave your name on it so it doesnt get stolen. I dont think we have to purchase BP cuffs. The facilities and the school should have those for our use.
For CPR, my mom is actually teaching the class at St. V's so I will be joining so she has enough people (I think she needs like 4 people at the least to make it worth her time). Valeria, she did mention you had contacted her so she wanted me to join the class as well. So it sounds like it is going to happen if you are still planning on taking it with her.
j.c. just let me know which day and I am in!!! i want to get it done:)

Super important question I know....
What kind of White shoes are y'all finding? I'm loathe to spend the money on Dansko (which I know I love) since I am not crazy about owning white shoes...
