  1. I applied for Legacy's women's health residency program. My interview went as well as I could have expected... A lot of it depends on if they're hiring on the unit or not. I haven't heard back from the unit and am keeping my fingers crossed. Some stats I've heard through my nursing program: there were about 1800 applicants to the program, my guess is that 800 people were interviewed, and there are about 43 spots. That's the just hearsay in my nursing program, so take it with a grain of salt.
  2. Oh and make some freezer meals, it will come in handy during midterms and finals!!!!!
  3. DH probably won't understand nursing school because he's never done it. But that's okay! It sure would be great if he tried to understand but BrandonLPN has a good point, being supportive is different than being understanding. Try approaching from a different point with your DH. Instead of showing him your textbooks and telling the curving system of the A&P, ask him for support in laundry, meal planning and child care.
  4. Oh also, I found I did so much better in school after I had my son. I HAD to manage my time right and had much more a drive to do well so I could provide a good life him :)
  5. Being scared and nervous can be a good thing. If you channel that energy right, you'll do awesome and prepare yourself. Just don't overwhelm yourself. It's all manageable and do-able. Good luck!
  6. What gets me the most is the residents that die from a stroke or sudden heart attack. I've seen people nose dive and I've seen people slowly decline. But watching anyone decline seems more painful than knowing they've passed on to a better place and are no longer in pain. I have had to work with personal grief in the past which has strengthened my faith and spirituality.
  7. The youngest person at my ltc facility is 18. Never seen anyone younger as a CNA, but it might be a state thing...
  8. Only CNAs answer call lights my facility. And there is no time limit to when a call light must be answered. That said, everyone is pretty prompt about answering 'their' call lights but doesn't usually answer 'other CNAs call lights'. The only time there is a hold up is if I'm with another resident. Depending on the resident, depends on how quickly I try to answer the light if I'm already with a resident. One resident has her call light going off every forty-five mins for BR, but has cath. So she can wait a bit longer if I'm with someone else. But if it's someone who rarely calls, I try to get there as fast as possible.
  9. I love Dansko's but definitely won't spend the money on a pair for nursing school. Plus, as a CNA, they really aren't practical; I've had my fair share of sprained ankles trying to make them work at my job. Now I just wear athletic shoes. Unfortunately, those aren't leather. I do have a white pair of leather shoes I got for my CNA class. I bought them from the Goodwill for less than 10 bucks. They definitely aren't the most fashionable shoes, but I might wear them for nursing school. Now that we're talking gear, what about stethoscopes? Definitely a Littman, but which one? What are you guys looking at? Also, mamakac, while searching for preschools w/ toddler programs, I'm seeing a lot of co-op preschools that are part time (9-noon/2 days a week). Plus since you (or your hubby) would volunteer, your tuition at the preschool is lower. Plus, you gotta love the memberships to Children's Museum or OMSI for rainy days!
  10. I'm wondering how everyone's summer is going? How are those clinical requirements going? I'm going to the July 16th BLS recert class from 12pm-3pm. Anyone else? I'm trying to prepare my life as much as I can to ease the craziness of nursing school and home life. I'm trying to purge my household of clutter. I figure the less stuff I have to take care of/distract me, the easier it will be maintain a household. I'm also going to work on getting a stockpile of homemade frozen meals during Aug/Sept. Even better will be frozen crockpot meals. As far as the little one goes, I'm searching for a preschool with toddler program that has extended hours. Preferably near campus. I'm a little worried about the transition for him, but I think once we get into the swing of the our fall schedule, it'll actually be good for him to have a predictable routine. And... no I haven't done any studying yet I found my anatomy coloring book (that I only used for muscles/bones) and I think that would a good way to review and refresh anatomy. I don't want to go all crazy but I do want to have human biology somewhat familiar. Any other tips/ideas you are doing to simplify your life or prepare for nursing school?
  11. Finally turned in my acceptance form and seat deposit!!! Part of me wants to review anatomy before fall.... but part of me wants to enjoy my summer j.c., I was going to be in the UO c/o 2011 before taking a year off and deciding on nursings (yeah, I'm taking a looonng time to get a degree). We might know each other. I'm thinking about becoming a CMA as well, but with my quitting before fall, I don't know if my job will consider that a good investment, ya know? apple74, I took microbiology last term, but enjoyed the class. If you are good with life science, cell bio, ect, then it shouldn't be too hard. I loved my professor, but I'm pretty sure she's in India until fall term. Goodl luck with the class!
  12. Hi all! My name is Stephanie and I'm thrilled to be part of PCC's Nursing Class of 2015! I've got a little one as well, he just turned two last weekend. He's definitely my little angel. I work as CNA at a retirement community in Newberg, but will probably be quitting once school starts. My job has definitely strengthened my desire to be a nurse. In my spare time (which is close to none!), I like to run, hike, spend time with my family, read, and cook fancy meals. Congrats everyone!
  13. I'm in :-) Biggest relief ever!
  14. ITA simplesmile! Hopefully this will be like a crisis bonding experience before we are all really accepted :-) My whole family thinks I'm still accepted, I'm not saying anything until I really find out. I'd rather stress on my own and here than have everyone try to reassure me. Plus I had a gigantic fb about being accepted. 50 likes and counting... This whole think really taints the 'real' acceptance email (if/when we get it). One hour to go before we should know!!
  15. Right?!?!?! Still keeping my fingers crossed. I thought I could finally relax, and now I'm tenser than ever.
