Wow this was a stressful admissions process but in the end we all made it out alive.

Figured we needed a place to meet and greet each other, discuss classes, and give everyone a helping hand when we need it (and lord knows we will need it somewhere on our journey through school!!!!

I am not sure if PCC has similar CPR requirements as OHSU, but we have to have our training done through a AHA certified course, the BLS Health Care Provider one. It is offered frequently through PCC and AHA- I am taking it at PCC on June 22nd for $69. I have heard to NOT purchase the book as it isn't used during the class at all. Hope this helps!

OHSU also requries 2 TB tests- and you have to have titers for all immunizations, but that might be more strigent than PCC

Can any of you tell me what your assessment score was for PCC? I was just looking into their program and wondering how many points (out of 60) you need to be competitive and be selected for the proctored essay.

I am pretty sure that I was in the low 50's- like 51 or 52.... I nailed the heck out of the essay IM guessing! :) I had all pre reques complete (all a's and maybe a few B for the 45 credits), a prior degree, and over 5 years of nursing experience in a clinical setting! Always have hope cuz you never really know what will happen. I applied to Mt Hood as well as PCC and got into PCC and not MT Hood (even though I went in with more points at MT Hood).

I had 57 points out of 60 with a 3.91 gpa (1 B in a&p 2) and I had a prior degree, and over a year in CNA experience. I didn't feel that my essay was great but I'm sure that the points weren't all that they look at. This was my third year applying at PCC and each year I earned more points by retaking a few classes and gaining health care experience. When I met with an advisor they said they really wanted to see health care experience in their applicants.

The main trend I see and from what I've heard from friends who didn't get in, is get a CNA license at least, and work if you can. Having that experience to pull from for the essay seems help.

I officially got the call today for acceptance to PCC nursing program! So excited to start my career journey in nursing!!!

Awesome news ready4nursing! One of my friends is right behind you on the wait list so hopefully they are calling more people this week! Did they email you or call you?

Only two weeks until orientation! Hooray!

@ poppyanddelia- PCC called me directly. Hopefully those waiting will find out soon! Excited for orientation!

:)

Who's excited for orientation Wednesday?!! I know I am!!

:)

Alright! Officially in as of today:) So excited to finally start the program in the fall:) Can't wait to meet you all on wednesday!

I'm wondering how everyone's summer is going? How are those clinical requirements going? I'm going to the July 16th BLS recert class from 12pm-3pm. Anyone else?

I'm trying to prepare my life as much as I can to ease the craziness of nursing school and home life. I'm trying to purge my household of clutter. I figure the less stuff I have to take care of/distract me, the easier it will be maintain a household. I'm also going to work on getting a stockpile of homemade frozen meals during Aug/Sept. Even better will be frozen crockpot meals.

As far as the little one goes, I'm searching for a preschool with toddler program that has extended hours. Preferably near campus. I'm a little worried about the transition for him, but I think once we get into the swing of the our fall schedule, it'll actually be good for him to have a predictable routine.

And... no I haven't done any studying yet ;) I found my anatomy coloring book (that I only used for muscles/bones) and I think that would a good way to review and refresh anatomy. I don't want to go all crazy but I do want to have human biology somewhat familiar.

Any other tips/ideas you are doing to simplify your life or prepare for nursing school?

I know that we aren't cohort members, but I am also taking the July 16th BLS course through PCC. Like you we are cleaning house before my program begins in September, and preparing frozen meals and canned goods for that.

My husband is a SAHD so we are searching for playdates and other fun things to keep our 2 year old happy and content, since this will be the end of our nursing relationship together when I am in class fulltime.
