Hi, I'm new here, so I apologize if this is in the wrong place or whatnot! I have to do a SWOT analysis for the nursing career and I am current stuck on the Opportunities section of it. If y'all could help me out that would be fantastic!!

I have a very important powerpoint presentation for school due this weekend. I posted something yesterday and discovered that I maybe didn't explain well enough. I'm doing a Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, and Threat analysis of the nursing career and am currently having some trouble on the Opportunity part (opportunities being elements that the career could exploit to its advantage). I'm soo stuck on this, if anyone can help me, you would be my hero!! Thanks a lot. :)

What do you mean exploit and by whom?

Exploit as in make the most of, utilize, etc. and by anyone in the medical profession. :)

Specializes in PICU, Sedation/Radiology, PACU.

To identify opportunities, look at the strengths and weaknesses. Ask yourself, How can I use these strengths to improve these weaknesses?” Those are your opportunities.

SWOT analysis entails looking at positives and negatives, both internally and externally. Thus:

  • STRENGTHS What are the positives that I bring to the situation? (Smart, like working with people, desire to serve, etc)
  • WEAKNESSES What are the negatives that I bring to the situation? (Afraid of blood, high test anxiety, etc)
  • OPPORTUNITIES What the the potential positives that the environment presents in this situation? (Highly mobile career, good living wage, variety of career options, potential for advanced practice [CRNA, NP, CNM])
  • THREATS What are the potential negatives that the environment presents in this situation? (Uncertainty in healthcare financing nationally, risk of malpractice litigation, highly competitive admission to nursing school, risk of injury or contracting communicable disease at work)
