Ontario Second-Entry Nursing

Published

Hi Everyone!

This is super early to talk about applying to nursing school for 2016, but it's always better to be well-prepared! Let's share some thoughts and help each other out!

I am re-applying to nursing schools as I did not get in last year, and planning to enroll to more courses for pre-reqs and to increase my GPA (I graduated with a B.A.)hopefully this year will be much better and with luck!!!!

I have a few universities in mind to apply -

  1. University of Toronto
  2. York
  3. Nipissing
  4. Western
  5. Queen's
  6. McMaster

Should I apply to more? Which one should I apply? I am super eager to enter the program and I failed once, failing twice is not allowed!

Feel Free to give me suggestions or ask questions! Here is a link I found online listing most of the second entry nursing programs.

Best wishes to everyone! Good Luck!

Congrats!! I don't have any emails yet. When did you submit your application? Also what was your gpa, if you don't mind me asking?

I submitted my application at the end of November and my GPA was a 3.9 (last 10 full credits) and 3.58 overall for my undergrad. Hope you hear soon!

Hi all!

This is my first post but I've been following this forum for a while :)

I applied to Trent, Nipissing and Humber's compressed programs, and am technically an internal applicant for Trent as I am taking their online Physiology course. Trent is my top choice for location, but Nipissing's Scholar Practitioner Program sounds very interesting with all the placements you would do. If anyone has any feedback on either program I'd love to hear it!

Thanks and good luck to all of you :)

Hi everyone!

This is my first post on this thread but I've been following for a while.

I applied to Trent compressed, Lakehead compressed, York compressed, and UOIT (though 4 years there), and received acceptances to all! I accepted Trent's offer this morning. Anyone else planning on heading to Trent?

Good luck everyone. :)

Hi everyone,

I recently got accepted to Trent compressed and Lakehead compressed. I didn't apply anywhere else because I didn't have phenomenal undergrad marks/ my undergrad was in business at Western and I didn't meet a lot of schools post secondary science requirements (psych/anat/phys etc). Anyways, I was wondering if anyone else is considering Trent? Or if anyone knows anything about it ?

I am thinking about going to Trent. Just haven't 100% decided on nursing. But I am pretty sure. If I do decide to pursue nursing, I will be going to Trent.

Hey, congrats. Do you mind sharing your GPA, I'm still waiting on Trent.

Hey,

Mine is a little bit of a complicated situation. I am not sure what I got accepted off of. So, during my last two years of Undergrad, I had an average of 70% dead on. Western doesn't do GPA, so I don't know what that equates to on a GPA scale. I graduated from Western in 2012 and worked at a bank in Finance for 3 years. In addition to that, I am currently at Fanshawe College in their General Arts and Science - Science stream program just to touch up on chemistry, anatomy, bio, etc (I graduated high school almost 9 years ago now and haven't taken any of that stuff since). My first semester I got a 4.20 GPA on a 4.20 GPA scale. My average At Fanshawe equates to roughly 94.4%. So yeah... I don't know how helpful that is. I don't know if they looked at just Western, or a combination of Western, Fanshawe and work experience. I really didn't think I was going to get in, so don't give up. I am sure you'll hear back!

That's great!!! Congrats!!! :) Would you mind sharing your gpa?

I'm also in the same situation as hvanden2 - I graduated from York in 2013 and my cGPA was a 6.17 (just above a 3.0 I think) on the 9.0 York scale, with a 6.9 (just below a B+) in my last two years. I didn't have any science credits from high school except for grade 11 general science (though I did take anatomy, physiology, etc in university and had a B+ or higher in those courses), so I did the GAS Nursing Prep program this year to get the science & math pre-requisites I was missing, and my first semester average was a 96.4% - 5.0 on a 5.0 scale. I'm not sure if Trent works the same way, but when I talked to Lakehead, they told me that they put a greater emphasis on your most recent academic studies, while still looking at my university grades. I'm guessing this might have been why I heard back so early.

I also didn't think I was going to get into Trent's compressed program... I applied to the 4 year program too just incase, and am genuinely shocked I heard back so early... To be honest I'm even surprised I heard back already from all of the schools I applied to.

Congrats to everyone got in! Feel free to message me if you're going to Trent - I'd love to meet/chat with anyone else who is going...would be nice to know someone going into orientation day!

Any advice would be helpful.>_

Congrats on your offers!

Can I ask when you wrote your CASPer for York? I know it takes about a month to process the results so I'm assuming you wrote at the beginning of Feb?

All the best! :)
