Ontario Second-Entry Nursing

Published

Hi Everyone!

This is super early to talk about applying to nursing school for 2016, but it's always better to be well-prepared! Let's share some thoughts and help each other out!

I am re-applying to nursing schools as I did not get in last year, and planning to enroll to more courses for pre-reqs and to increase my GPA (I graduated with a B.A.)hopefully this year will be much better and with luck!!!!

I have a few universities in mind to apply -

  1. University of Toronto
  2. York
  3. Nipissing
  4. Western
  5. Queen's
  6. McMaster

Should I apply to more? Which one should I apply? I am super eager to enter the program and I failed once, failing twice is not allowed!

Feel Free to give me suggestions or ask questions! Here is a link I found online listing most of the second entry nursing programs.

Best wishes to everyone! Good Luck!

Out of curiosity! How many students does UofT nursing take in each year?

I believe it's ~175

Has anyone heard from York yet?

I don't think anyone needs to worry yet! It is JUST April. I have a feeling the bulk of acceptances probably go out in May when final grades are received.

Now I need to practice what I preach and not worry either haha! I know it's difficult though.

Has anyone contacts mcmaster to ask when they will start to send out offers? I just don't want to keep bugging them if someone already has

I am currently just finished my second year in the York 2nd Entry program, I'm going into my summer semester. For those who are hoping to get into York, it is an incredibly disorganized program and you do have to deal with a lot of administrative complications. There are some professors that should just not be teaching. That being said, there are so great profs too and the professors we've had for the clinical courses (class + placement) have been amazing thus far. I'm starting to see all the material being tied together and York has definitely geared the program more towards the NCLEX and it definitely shows in the statistics. York has a 93% pass rate on the NCLEX for 1st time writers (compressed program only). UofT, Queen's and McMasters have similar stats for their compressed programs, significantly higher than other schools!

Does anyone know anything about Ryerson's Nursing program and how it is relative to UofT's second entry program?

I received my offer of admission to U of T earlier today at noon!! I was so nervous about not hearing back from them, especially since I heard that offers were already sent out in the first week of April. Patience is key!

Do you mind sharing your gpa in last 10 credits and a summary of your supplementary activities?

I got accepted to U of T nursing an hour ago. My gpa for my last 10 credits was 9.7/10 and I completed my honours bachelor of health sciences last year. Can't wait to meet all of you in September and I hope everyone on here hears good news soon :)

I just got my offer an hour ago as well! I actually started crying because it has been such a long journey for me.

Stats: I'm 25, GPA in last 10 credits was 3.8, which I was worried since in my last year I took 7 courses so I'm guessing they had to go to the previous year to get the top 3?! I have worked in public health for 3 years prior.

I really hope everyone gets in. Keep your hopes alive and your chin held high (corny, I know). I applied the day before the deadline, took part-time courses my last year of undergrad and I am currently completing 2 pre-reqs so that should allow people to breathe a bit easier!

Best of luck

Yeah, absolutely!

My GPA for the last 10 credits is 3.94, cGPA is just under 3.9. I haven't been out of school for long, so many of my supplementary activities included various committee positions and volunteer programs offered at my uni. For example, I was president and treasurer of a couple of societies, I volunteered a lot, and I worked part-time throughout my degree as well. Hope this helps!
