Ontario Second Entry Nursing Fall 2021

Published

Hey everyone!

I haven't seen a post for Fall 2021 yet so here it is!

My choices are:

1. UofT

2. McMaster

3. Nipissing SPP

I started my OUAC application in November and now trying to work on the supplemental packages. My CASPer Test is on January 12, 2021.

I need to take Anatomy and Physio course(s) however, I'm having a hard time figuring out what would satisfy the requirements from all three universities. My options so far are:

1. Take CBLG 101 in Winter and CBLG 111 in Spring at Ryerson. However final grade will be in June; hoping that's fine.  This satisfies all 3 unis

2. Take SCS 2159 in Winter from UofT which is enough for UofT and McMaster but not for Nipissing. I have to take an Anatomy course just for Nip.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education from back home, been working as an RECE in Toronto the last 8 years, have a Diploma in Nonprofit Management at Ryerson. My cGPA is 3.55 which I'm worried about. Lots of extra curricular activities from university and volunteering here in Toronto.  I still have to compute the GPA for the last two years.

I requested WES to send my transcripts to Nip and McMaster and asked my old uni to send to UofT.

It's been an expensive application so far; really hoping I get in! Looking forward to chatting with you all and sharing our experiences.

Yes, I have emailed.  Now I'm just worried it is too late, we are way past Feb 8.

I e-mailed someone in admissions as none of my prerequisites are marked as received yet and this is what I was told. The Admissions team is still working through approving prerequisites, but as long as you submitted your transcript and course summary form by February 8th, you should be good!

SPP course my casper was not received till February 1. I emailed them with prove that casper result send to Nipissing at January 10. After my email they update it. Emai them again may be they missed it.

Do schools care about how long it took to complete an undergrad? My grades in the first few years weren't the best but I was able to bring my cGPA up to a ~3.0-3.1, and my final year GPA to a ~3.9-4.0. Anybody else in a similar situation? Or has anyone heard of a similar case being admitted?

Anyone else here quite far along from when they graduated? I completed my undergrad in 2016, worked for a few years in my field (food science/nutritional science) and have realized I want a career change into nursing... I have always loved working with kids, so hoping to get into pediatrics!

Wondering if since I have been out of school it might affect my chances. I am currently taking an online human physiology (not for credit, more as a refresher).

Just saw on the York website that casper will no longer be a requirement for 2022 entry ??‍♀️ lucky them LOL

does anyone know when nipissing is gonna send out offers?

also do you guys think I have a chance of getting into Nipissing with an 8.2GPA (york scale)?

In the same boat, my first 2 years were like a 1.0 LOL so I had to take a 5th year to get my grades up. Final 2 years I brought up to a 4.0

most schools only look at the last year or the last 2 years! So you’re good! Plus some schools may like that you have an upwards trend ?

My transcript is kind of a mess LOL. I transferred in second year so I had to take an extra 7-8 courses (so basically an extra year) to catch up. Then some health issues came up so I took a year off. Then I took another year to bring up some grades and complete some prereqs for other programs. So ~3 years extra. I was worried since there isn't a chance to explain the abnormalities in my transcript through a LOI for some universities. Hopefully they can see past the length of the degree and focus more on that upward GPA trend! ?

You should be fine! Most calculate the GPA of the last year or two!

York, McMaster, and Western!

Does anyone know if Nipissing will consider the American grading scale when looking over transcripts? I did my undergrad in the states and even though my top 20 courses puts me at a 3.8, I got C's in my prerequisites. I technically finished with mid 70s in the courses which would be considered a B in Canada but just worried they'll see the C's and not consider me.
