Ontario Second Entry Nursing Fall 2019

Updated:   Published

Hello Everyone,

I am currently a third year York University student hoping to apply for second entry nursing at York

only next year (yes I am going through the strike).

Since applications open in November, I thought it would be best to get this forum started. I am hoping to get more insight into the program and I hope current and past nursing students would share their views on the program and how job searching went. Also, what nursing specialties do most York nursing graduates enter as I am hoping to get into public health. Furthermore, share your insights on Humber, McMaster, U of T, Trent, Queens, Western, Ottawa and Nippissing. (I think that is all) and don't forget to include your acceptance GPAs.

That’s weird because admissions told me they don’t count them, they don’t even look at them ?

I don't see any reason why they would care, unless you failed the course. I really don't think it's a big deal because it can't count towards your GPA either way. As long as you get the credit, and you can graduate on time, you should be fine.

So I just called the registrar and CR/NCR in the final year will not penalize you however if you're taking a course load of 8.0 credits or lower (like me) and CR/NCR a course (like me), at the time of review for the conditions (later in July), the CR/NCR courses will be calculated into the average* because the need a minimum of 8.0 credits to calculate the GPA. The final year average must be a minimum of 76.5%.

*They do have access to CR/NCR grades on ACORN ;((.

What?? Firstly what do they mean 8.0 courses or lower? Even if you’re taking less than 10 courses THIS year, wouldn’t they extrapolate and take grades from summer and 3rd year winter to make up the 5.0 credits if they have to?? Why don’t they explain this on their website! We have to find out the hard way. But either way I think you shouldn’t stress because you got in! The rest of us on the other hand...?

So I took 2.0 credits in the fall semester of this year, 1.5 in the summer and 2.5 in the winter of third year (including 0.5 of cr/ncr), so would they count the cr/ncr??

they need a minimum of 8 (4 credit) courses at the time they check the conditions in July in the final year to calculate the final average because at the time of admission, it's only the fall semester, summer semester, the previous winter year. I'm not sure what would happen if you only took 7 courses. But anywhoo I treated it like a CR/NCR when I shouldn't have.

the registrar said they're looking at the entire applicant pool and admissions are an ongoing basis, hoping the best for all of you guys, you deserve it so much

taking CR/NCR would *not* penalize you. They only count it if your last year is less than 4.0 credits 8 courses. are you taking 8 credits or less this final year?

Oh so I’m taking 4.5 credits this final year including fall and winter semester so the cr/ncr wouldn’t affect me right?

Thank you for telling us honestly ❤️❤️
