Ontario Second Entry Nursing Fall 2018

Published

I'm applying to the second entry nursing program in February 2018 for Fall 2018 admission. I'm applying to York, Humber, Trent, Nipissing and potentially Western. I'll be applying with a BA in psych. This is probably super premature, but I wanted some reassurance from fellow applicants. I also wanted to know if anyone, past or previous applicants, know the weighting of Additional Information forms and how they're considered during the application process? I was diagnosed with ADHD during my second year of university, after being misdiagnosed two previous times, and it's certainly had an impact on my grades. My GPA is going to be something like 6.7 on a 9.0 scale. And this really has me worried. Has anyone else had any experiences with Add. Forms?

Good luck to all!

Thank you for your thorough answer! I was leaning towards York and your response really helps with my decision. All the best!

Hey everyone, I just got my package from Trent and I'm being offered a scholarship that offsets the extra semester of schooling

I'm having trouble choosing between Trent and Queens

Does anyone have any advice for me?

About scholarships, does anyone anything knw about Humber and its entrance scholarships if it has any or scholarships for the nursing program and its requirements??

Congrats on the scholarship, I'm still waiting on my package to come in the mail. Honestly, they are both great programs. I had friends that attended both schools for nursing highly enjoyed their experience. I think it depends on which location you rather prefer, I know i'm staying on res but its cheaper or more affordable than queens. Also too, Trent allows you to go on nursing trips to Honduras, Guatemala and Nicaragua! Definitely weight the pros and cons of each such as location, res, tuition etc..

There's so many variables to consider, such a tough choice, honestly didn't think I'd have to make one!

Thanks a lot for your help, I really appreciate it :)

Western applicants: check your UWO portal - my application was put on hold until my final marks are submitted from the winter term

For those of you who have been accepted to Trent, is there a deadline to accept the offer? I can't seem to find it on my MyTrent portal.

I was an internal applicant and the email they sent me stated I had three weeks to respond back to them. But for OUAC applicants it might be different...

Yeah, mine was as well!

Hey everyone I was in the same boat re: deciding which school to go to. I got in touch with a family friend who is the director of medicine & critical care at a hospital in Toronto and this is what she said with regards to picking a school. It helped break it down for me and hopefully helps others!

"There is lots to consider with schools- they all use different nursing theorists- find one that resonates with you.

UofT is not necessarily the best for bedside nursing- if you are into research and taking NP school and love academia this may be great for you.

York is SUPER patient focused- phenomena focused care.

Ryerson is critical social theory focused.

Brock is super integrated pragmatic- great nurses coming from these types of universities.

Queens- super academic

UBC- some of my colleagues went here and loved it.

Ottawa area hospitals are VERY patient focused and I can only assume this would impact the nursing approach to eduction there!

At the end of the day in many ways one is not necessarily better than another in landing a job . As for student experience you may want to dive into this.

My advice would be to pick a school that works for living a full life, is highly multicultural, has supports you need to succeed and then just go for it FULL TILT, learn all you can, work hard, get involved!"

Hope this is useful for others :)

I accepted my offer to western and it just lists the conditions I have to meet (maintain 75% average). Maybe they're holding off the rest of the acceptances till final term marks are in. Good luck!

For those of you that got in to Humber/UNB, were you able to get a transfer credit for anatomy? If so, what course did you take?
