Anyone applying to NP school in Ontario for the year 2025?

Would love to have a discussion started for acceptances, etc.

Thank you 🙂 There are a few different reasons (I am still trying to research. Please take this with a grain of salt because I am still trying to learn about the differences)

1. Placements. In the online recording (information session at UofT) the program coordinator mentioned that UofT has their own affiliation with the hospitals. She also mentioned that in the final placement they try their best to accommodate students who have a specific area of interest. Coming from tmu as an undergraduate (I LOVED tmu don't get me wrong), but I do remember many students would be placed in LTC or community placements as a consolidation. I just don't want to run the risk of being in that situation in the NP Program. Again, loved my experience at TMU but that does feel like a "pro" that UofT has great affiliations to UHN and other clinics.

2. I love that UofT is now focusing on all ages across the continuum AND all settings. I am unsure right now if I want to work in a clinic or inpatient. I like that UofT provides exposure to all settings. If I like PHC, great. If not, then I like that I will have exposure to other settings.

3. I have heard that TMU is focusing more on community health care and family practice clinics. Which is amazing, (and I may end up in that role one day) but I like that UofT isn't specifically focusing on community healthcare and focuses on acute care as well.

4. I am trying to learn about the consortium... apparently UofT is not a part of it. Tmu is. I need to learn if that's a good or bad thing that UofT is not a part of the consortium. From my understanding, the consortium provides a standardized approach for most NP schools. I assume that means UofT may have a unique design for the program that isn't "standardized". Again, I need to read more into this.

UofT is part of TAHSN which provides broad clinical placement opportunities in hospital settings. And yes TMU is community focus and previously they had a question in their application about working in LTC as an NP. I have heard pros and cons about both programs but it is difficult to compare as everyone's experiences are different. The one consistent feedback I have received is UofT's faculty is more supportive in comparison to TMU.

The whole point of the consortium was for smaller schools to pool their resources together but UofT being recognized as one of the top schools in the country with strong resources and partnerships so they do not need to rely on the consortium and maintain full control over their curriculum,

Thank you so much for your reply. That is so helpful! It's reassuring to know that the faculty is supportive - that brings me peace of mind.
I actually accepted my offer a few minutes ago 🙂

Hi TT2022, I was wondering when you got accepted into York and what letter your last name starts with?

The Tuesday 18th the status switched to "decision pending". Wednesday the 19th I got the "admitted" statement on my file. The 24th I received the official email.

Last name starts with N.

Did anyone apply to Lakehead University?

Hi everyone, I got accepted to uoft and york, trying to decide which to choose, got a good scholarship to york which virtually covers the tuition versus uoft which is quite a financial burden. Just trying to gauge what people have heard regarding both programs and if uoft is worth such a hefty cost.

Hi RNpaeds,

I was wondering when you got accepted into  York and what your last name starts with?

My application for McMaster says under review still. Have you heard anything from them?

I haven't hard from UofT awards/scholarships yet. I am hoping we hear back from them soon because the program is quite expensive.
