Ontario- HOAE results? 'Normalized' score?

World Canada CA Programs

Updated:   Published

Just wondering if anyone else has recently taken the HOAE? I got my results, but I am wondering what the 'normalized score' is all about? I am willing to share my scores if anyone is interested in comparing their results. Might give us an idea of what the average score was like, or what the deal is with the 'normalized' value. It's frustrating to sit and wait around during the college strike... I personally haven't received any news on my application at all since I got my HOAE scores. I applied to both Pre-Health and RPN. Looking online, it doesn't even seem like they have all my prerequisite grades recorded.

Well...as they say, patience is a virtue. Although I don't recall anyone ever accusing me of being 'virtuous' before. :D

Just anxious to get started, like everyone else!

Is anyone else willing to share their scores for the HOAE? If you can include your 'normalized' scores, it might help me figure out what it means.

Hoping this strike ends soon.....

Ok...I looked up my HOAE results..

Academic Apptitude 67 - Normalized 101.5

Natural Sciences 53 - Normalized 79.93

Reading Comprehension 30 - Normalized uncalc.

Spelling 39 - Normalized 58.82 (there was an error with this normalized score)

Generally normalized means you did better than that percent of the population taking the same test.

Hopefully they are back to work soon and you can get some answers

Sorry forgot my vocational adjustment...81 - normalized 122.16

Thank you for sharing! I appreciate you going to the trouble to find your grades. I thought the same thing about the 'normalized' score, but that can't be right, can it? I got two normalized scores over 100, so that sort of eliminates the percentage theory...

Looks like you were very successful with your HOAE as well! Are you currently a student?

Anyone else?

I am currently an RPN student in the Momac program (collab program with Mohawk and McMaster) When I asked faculty about the "normalized scores" noone was really able to give a good answer. This is the first year that Mohawk required the entrance test. It looks like your results are very similar to mine - better even ;)

Good luck and hopefully the wait isn't too long

That's interesting... I didn't know the entrance exam was a recent development @ Momac. Thanks for checking with the instructors! Great idea, even if it didn't exactly pan out! lol

I hope I'm not waiting too long either. My outlook is much improved with the end of the strike! Yay! I'm sure you know exactly how tough it is not knowing.

Hopefully I'll see you there in January....! :)

Hi. Just wondering how you guys got your HOAE results before getting accepted into the program? I applied at Sheridan for the RPN and I sat the HOAE in November. I called the college to find out what was going on with my application as my score wasn't posted. She told me I got 91% but couldn't provide me with a breakdown.

Any other way to find out exactly what my scores were? Or do I have to wait?

Thanks!

Mohawk College emailed us our individual results, and the breakdown. I sat my HOAE in July for the January intake. Maybe Sheridan doesn't send their results...? Actually, I know someone who wrote it there...I will see if she remembers getting her results and post again.

(PS- congrats on the nice score!) :)

Hey all, I see that this thread is about a year old, but I just wrote my HOAE for Mohawk and got the results (quicker than I anticipated!) I am also trying to interpret the normalized scores and I have no idea what these mean. Can anyone shed some light- i'm not sure if anyone has actually gotten an answer since this was posted?

Thanks all!

It says in the results email to ignore the normalized score...its for their admin purposes only. The other score is the important one. The email with the results should explain it.

That was me that posted originally- I never did find out what the deal was with those scores. I did find out what each section of the test was worth, though, so I found what my overall percentage was for each area... I don't know how they weight them, though, so probably that doesn't mean much either!

If it helps you guys to get a timeframe in mind, because I very clearly remember how awful the wait was!- I didn't get my acceptance until the very end of September. I think it was the 30th. So... put it out of your mind as best you can until then! (yeah...right!) Hopefully it will be sooner than that.

Any questions, please ask!

Starfish! How is second semester? I'm gearing up to begin in September! You were right about getting things done early - what a process! there was only one CPR class left on the 28th of August! And I've already had 2 doctors appointments and have at least 2 more...so much waiting, so much to do...
