Online Practice Tests & Actual Exam

Nursing Students TEAS

I did my first online practice test 2 weeks ago and scored a 67, then I continued studying my weak areas. I just did my second practice test today and received a 72. I wonder how much everyone here scored on practice tests comparing to the actual exam. I'm taking my exam this weekend and kind of nervous now. If you don't mind, sharing statistics is highly appreciated.

Well I didn't take the official online practice tests but I did take the book tests from the official TEAs guide. I didn't do that well on those (average 70s-80s) but I did end up doing very well on the actual TEAs test (got 92). I've heard many say the actual one is a bit easier than the practice tests they give you and I agree. Keep studying and good luck... I suggest to keep taking as many practice tests as you can before the test.

I agree with Honey Clover, and it seems that everyone here who keeps taking a practice test and works on their weakness area always improves. And I've also seen lots of people saying that the practice tests (online or in the books) are always slightly harder than the actual test....I'm taking mine on Feb. 22 so I hope that the trend is real and true :( Good luck and keep practicing!

Thanks guys! Will see how it goes. I am studying my butt off on science and reading portions. I need a 75 to pass this test but I am aiming for something in 80's to be a competitive applicant.

Congrats on your score Honey Clover! How long did you study for?

Congrats on your score Honey Clover! How long did you study for?

Thanks! I studied for about 2.5 weeks, every day, 8 hours per day during the late summer last year. The last few days, I didn't study at all and just rested. I got into a BSN program recently and will be starting next week so all the stress was definitely worth it. :)

I just completed the TEAS V exam today. Got 80-90's in English, Reading and Math. Did horrible on Science-60's. I studied for an hour -two hours for the last 4 weeks. I recommend practicing all the areas but focusing on the Math and Science portions. Good luck to you!

I did the exam today too! I think I did not do quite well in the reading part because there were many passages to read and answer. I ran out of time in this section but managed to guess and fill all that were remaining. The rest is just okay for me. Now I have to wait more than a week for the results.

I just completed the Math and Science portions of the manual, taking notes on the Science portion. (I'm not too worried about the English and Reading portions, since those are my strong subjects.) I scored a 69% on the first online practice test!! I take my test in twelve days...and now I am super nervous!! I'm going to focus on the "Topics to Review". I am determined to get in the 90th percentile on this test! I am amazed at how low that I scored, being that I have taken A&P I and A&P II, and Microbiology all within the last seven months (and, after getting all "A's" in those courses)! I pray that you all are right, and that these online and book practices tests are harder than the real thing. I have horrible anxiety, and I don't need test anxiety to affect my performance.

I was exactly the same, I just took my TEAS on the 15th and was really worried because I score 72% on the online practice test the day before my exam and ended up getting a 93.3% on my actual TEAS V exam. I think as long as you know the mistakes that you've made and understand the fundamentals, then you will do fine on the exam. Good luck!!!

Don't freak out too much. I took both practice tests, scored a 68 on the first one and a 75 on the second one. I needed at least an 80 to be competitive in my program. I practically had a nervous breakdown, because I took the second one three days before the exam, and it was so hard, much harder than the tests in the ATI book and I really didn't have any time to study because of my work schedule. I took the actual test yesterday and scored a 94% overall which put me in the 99th percentile. *Cue angel chorus*

The reading had longer passages than any of the practice tests, but the questions were easier to answer. There were only a couple of questions I struggled with. I got a 96 in that section, after scoring in the low 80s consistently on the online practice tests that was a huge relief.

On math, I scored a 70 on the first online practice test and a 74 on the second. I got a perfect score on the actual test. Questions were easier and more straight-forward, the word problems were a lot less tricky. I did cut it really close on time, I think I only had 3 minutes left when I got to the last question.

Science was sooo much easier. This was always my lowest score on the practice tests, even in the book. It's been a few years since I've taken a science class, so this was the one I studied for the most (thank you khanacademy). Somehow I pulled out an 89. Don't ask me how, I know there were a few I just had to guess on and move on, maybe those were the ones that weren't scored. But for the most part, I actually knew the answers, maybe it was just luck of the draw.

English I was usually scoring in the low 70s, even in the book tests I was only getting an average of 80, just because there are so many rules that I haven't studied since the 5th grade, and they're rules we don't usually use anymore. I can look at a sentence and I can tell you what's wrong with it, but don't ask me to tell you why. I took my time with this section, was a lot more careful, because there were a lot of trick questions in the English section of the online practice assessments, and was pleasantly surprised to find that they were pretty straightforward. I got a 93 on this section.

In my opinion, the tests in the book were more comparable to the actual test than the online ones; however, I think the online tests better prepared me for the actual test. They give you a printout at the end so you can figure out what you need to focus on, and I also timed myself and got myself used to being on a timer. Came in real handy on the test. I aimed to finish each section with at least 10 minutes to spare on the practice tests. On the actual test, I had about 5-8 minutes left on each section (except for math, only had 3 minutes left).

Use the online assessments as a study tool, not as a predictor of your score. Good luck!
