Online BSN program for non-nursing students

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi!

I am a returning student who already holds a Bachelors degree in another field.

I would like to pursue a BSN, but seem to be running into some road blocks.

Has anyone successfully completed an online program for a BSN without holding an RN?

Or....Do i just get my RN first? and if so, are there straight online programs for this?

Thanks!!

There are no online prelicensure programs to become an RN.

At one time in the distant past, Excelsior offered one with the end point CPNE, like their ASN program, but they discontinued that program years ago.

And there are no online "partial" programs for BSN for someone who already holds a Bachelor's degree?

I've never heard of one. Prerequisites can often be taken online, but I don't know of any actual nursing classes that can ...and certainly not clinicals.

Ok...I completed my pre-reqs.

I have applied somewhere, but idk if I will get in.

I was hoping to have a back up plan for a BSN program maybe complete the coursework partially online and partially in the field...

If you already hold a bachelor's degree, you need to be looking at accelerated BSN degree programs while keeping in mind that those programs are considered to be extremely rigorous and not for the faint of heart or those that need to spend a lot of hours holding a job.

Thanks!

I have been looking and I'm applying to the only local accelerated program in my area... very expensive but have the time!

I was looking for an alternative back up plan to complete the coursework as maybe a hybrid/online program with clinicals locally.... any back up in case i don't get in.

I have seen others on here state they are going to accelerated bsn with non nursing degrees...

Just hoping to find a clue maybe...

Sorry for the repeats....I am not use to this online forum and replying and commenting...

Specializes in NICU.

Most ABSN programs are campus based for both lecture and clinicals. There are hybrid traditional BSN and ABSN programs depending on the state. () has a traditional BSN program in which lectures courses are done online and clinicals are done locally, but only available in Ca, Fl, IN, Tx, UT. There are ABSN programs such as Marian University in Indy that provide a hybrid program (online lecture courses, on site labs and clinicals). Emory University in Atlanta just started an online accelerated BSN. There are set login times and apparently they set you up with the clinical portion near where you live. In addition to normal prereqs, you also have to be a CNA.
