OHSU ABSN 2018-2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey all!

Now that the application deadline has passed, I feel comfortable finally starting a post. Just curious to hear who else applied to this program. It's fascinating to me to hear about people's different experiences, stats, expectations, etc. I'm also wondering what other programs people might've applied to? I got my submission in for the Portland ABSN to FNP/DNP program as well.

Best of luck to everyone! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and perspectives.

Hey all! I applied to the Portland ABSN program too. I have an undergrad degree in Environmental Science with a GPA of about 3.4 but a 4.0 in pre-reqs. Honestly I'm not too optimistic but I'm giving it a try. My GPA is low by their standards but I have a lot of experience working and volunteering in health/ social justice/ community activism which they seem to value.

No other applications yet, a lot of the other programs I'm looking at don't open applications until May-ish.

This is my 4th time applying to OHSU.

Last year interview invites were sent out within the first two weeks of feb, giving applicants 2-3 weeks to prepare.

This is good to know, thanks! That's more time than it appears they're giving applicants with the direct entry programs (I also applied for the ABSN-MN FNP program), which is helpful.

I was told the end of this month is when we would get invitations to interview. But I can't be 100% sure, maybe I misheard or maybe they thought I was applying to a different program. Given past years it seems like we'll get an invitation in february...though it's frustrating that it seems they don't tell folks they haven't gotten in until much much later.

Thought I heard the same. It is frustrating! Wish they'd just tell you, you didn't get in.

When/where did you hear this? I hope this is the case, but wouldn't be shocked if it takes them longer.

Just out of curiosity, is anyone here applying to any other schools in Portland? Like Linfield, Concordia, UP, or Walla Walla? Trying to figure out my next move in terms of applications and what not if I don't get in and just don't know much about the other schools, especially Concordia.

I thought about applying to Linfield, but couldn't apply to the ABSN because I graduate a month after the application deadline and they require that you have your bachelors degree before even applying. So then I thought about applying to just the normal BSN, but they said that last year only one spot was given to an outside applicant and that the rest were for current Linfield students wanting to major in nursing. I could be mistaken about those, so I would say if you are interested you should call and ask about that!

I didn't apply to Linfield this year because I'm in the middle of my prerequisites, as opposed to being finished with them. It sounds like they're incredibly picky in regards to applications. Concordia has multiple start dates throughout the year, have been friendly from the brief amount of time I've talked to someone on the phone, and aren't completely insane in terms of tuition (UP is terrifying). I guess I just don't know much about student satisfaction or it's reputation at all.

Thought I replied to this already! Sorry if this is a repeat. After finishing the application I called the admissions and talked to them then (so early Jan). From what I remember they said the end of January is when I'd get an invitation. But again someone (maybe me) might have misunderstood something...

I think I've given up on getting in to ohsu

I know interviews are the first days of March, for the ABSN without a master's anyways, so I'd guess more like second week of February unfortunately. I hope you're right and we start hearing soon though!
