NJCU ABSN 2018-19 Cohort

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi Aspiring Nurses,

So I may be a bit early, considering the 2017 class is just now getting their acceptance letters for this coming Fall. But since late last year, I've been preparing to apply to the NJCU ABSN Jersey City cohort that will begin in 2018. I wasn't able to apply to the 2017 cohort as my prerequisites were not finished in time. I figured others may be in the same boat, so I figured why not get the conversation going. The application will open in October, and that's creeping up quickly, as it always does. ;)

Therefore, I'd like to start this forum to discuss any questions or concerns we might have. I'm attending the info seminar next Wednesday, 3/29 at 5 PM - anyone else going? Some of my concerns are financial aid, specifically how much non-need based aid is available as many of us may not qualify for need-based aid if we work full time now. I currently work in Financial Aid, so if you have any questions about that, I'd be happy to give any info I have. I'm also curious about credit requirements for prereqs - I can't seem to find specific numbers (e.g. how many A&P credits do we need).

Overall, I hope to connect with others who are interested in applying to start in 2018, Jersey City and Wall - please share your thoughts, and I look forward to speaking with you!

Hiiiii all! I'll be applying for the Fall 2018 cohort in Jersey City. Which are you all applying too? Excited that our time is finally here :)

Hi Ladies!

I graduated from the program back in 2016. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me anything.

Hi! Thanks for volunteering any info you have :] Congrats on graduating!

1. Are you able to work part-time while in the program?

2. How did students manage the cost of the program?

3. Can you give us an idea of what the schedule is like while in the program?

4. About how long did it take students to find a job after graduating?

Thank you so much!

Eris08, BSN,

Thank you for offering your help :). How did you prepare for the HESI entrance exam? And, how much time did you allot to it?

Thank you in advance!

-Rose

@Eris08 please inform us when you get a chance about how the schedule is for each semester if possible. And how were you able to pay for the cost are there any scholarships? Also, did you pass the Nclex the first try?

Thank you in advance,

Unique

Hi Ladies!

I graduated from the program back in 2016. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me anything.

What was the hardest part of the 10 months of the program?

-What was the most challenging class for you?

-Were the tests crazy hard?

Thank you again for sharing with us.

Hello!

I've been waiting so long to apply to this program and I am so excited to finally be able to take this step! Today I completed the HESI and I am moving forward with the application process. How is everyone else doing so far?

@ Prossano

Congratulation on passing the HESI :). How was the test overall? How much time did you dedicate to studying? Did the test go deep, like asking about the Cellular respiration - Glycolysis-Krebs cycle- Electron transfer etc or was it more generalized? Also, what methods were you using to study?

Thank you in advance :)

Hi Rose! I am sorry for not getting back to you sooner! I dedicated about 3 weeks to studying. If you prepare, the test will be easy. I used the Elsevier book and flashcards from study stack and quizlet for studying. I also used the practice tests from mcgraw-hill's 3 evolve reach (hesi) a2 practice tests book. I also used the free practice exam that I found online (I will attach them to the end of the post). The Biology and A&P part was very basic! Each section of the test has about 5 experimental question. You are also able to choose the order of the sections you want to complete. You are given the score of the section as soon as it is complete.

If there is anything I missed let me know!

Hi all. I am going to prep for the HESI now and take it hopefully in January. I have completed all prereqs and have around a 3.2 GPA (hopefully 3.3-3.4 after this semesters grades post). I am applying to Jersey City as 60 spots compared to 30 at wall because i figure more of a chance of getting in. Graduating with my BS in health studies in May. Anyone know how hard/easy it is to get in? Do I have a shot?

Everything done except HESI, thinking I will do fine I have never done bad on a standardized test and I am going to give myself a month to prep.

Any other advice? Who else is applying?! I am also mostly done with my application. Rolling admin?

Hello everyone,

I am also applying to NJCU for the ASBN program at the Jersey City Campus. I am taking my Hesi exam next Friday, January 5th. I am pretty nervous about this exam, as I am hoping I studied the correct materials haha.

Good luck everyone!

Greetings! I am also applying for this cohort as a second-career student! I am going to be taking the HESI A2 in about a week and a half.

Planning to finish the application portion within the next week and a half. Hoping for the best for all of us! :)
