Hi Guys,

I'm looking into [COLOR=#003366]Grand Canyon University online RN to BSN program. For the people who are already involved can you give me some feedback? What was your total cost of the program? Did the college offer any kind of scholarschips or grants? The facility I work in right now will not offer any kind of tuition assistance and I am unable to take any more financial aid out... so I am paying out of pocket and looking for some ways to offset the cost. I am afraid to engage my contact at GCU about this because she is some what aggressive and i need time to make my mind up. The local colleges around me want me to take 6 pre-req's before I can start their program, where as I will not have to take any at GCU. That sounds very appealing to me, but its about 2x the cost from what I can gather from their website.

Next question is how are the papers and group projects? I haven't had to write a paper in some time and always struggled to come up with good content for my papers in college. I'm worried I will be eaten alive by instructors.

I'm planing on starting there in January. I have a friend from my ADN program doing it she works full time, has kids and is doing just great. I'm so sorry your person is aggressive mine is the sweetest thing and so willing to answer all my questions. Double check that pre req requirement. I could be wrong, but just because you don't need the additional 6 pre Reqs does not mean you won't have to complete those classes to get your degree. In order to get a BSN you have to meet the general ed requirements for classes as well as the nursing major class requirements. This is not determined by the school, but is required of all schools. Classes may vary at each to meet requirements. This means that you may end up havin to take those courses anyway or similar course, but will be paying the GCU tuition for them instead of say the CC tuition.

I could be be wrong completely, but make sure to ask the advisor if those additional classes will be required to be taken or if you will meet the degree requirements with what you already have and the courses required for their RN-BSN.

I know for GCU I didn't need Chem and that made me very happy ;)

GCU already reviewed my transcripts and I do not need any pre-reqs (unless they try to surprise me). I only need statistics which is built into their program already. Local colleges want me to retake Algebra and statistics (even though I have A's in both classes my credits wont transfer for some reason), Chemistry and Nutrition and 3 Humanities classes.

Hello to both of you.

I graduated in May and really enjoyed the program. I never had a pushy person and the transition was seamless. I had tuition reimbursement from my employer and some student loans but even then the program was still cheaper than than what a local b/m school wanted simply because of the crazy prerequisites that didn't transfer or were too old. I would have needed another year of language even though I already had two, another algebra, nutrition, etc.. All of those that I took years ago. No thanks. THAT degree would have been well into the 20k mark. GCU was 16k and I did have some reimbursement from them in the form of a grant.

Most of us only need the 12 core classes but some people need a few more and some less.

The instructors are very good. The CLC are just that. Some good and some not so good. That is person specific, lol.

Here is a link I started over 2 yrs ago whilst looking into GCU. I chose this school because I wanted a Christian, brick and mortar school which GCU meets the requirements off. The ground campus nursing program is highly regarded in the AZ area. They have sports teams, and like I said a traditional campus. Yes, it IS for profit-at this time. GCU is thinking of dropping the for profit because they are financially sound and do not like the stigma that for profits seems to be attached too.

Tokmom congrats on graduating awesome accomplishment. Christian and an actual campus I loved that. I know my tuition including everything is right under 16k. By far the most affordable.

You cannot double up until after the 4th class and even then, people usually do it once. It's difficult to do.

I also had similar questions and got some answers here and posted about my impression so far.

I started in Nov and I like it so far. I had great luck with the advisors through GCU and they are not at all pushy. Cost wise- about 16,000 for me as well. I get a 10% discount through my employer. Papers aren't too bad just yet. 750-1000 words and theirs rubrics which clearly state their expectations and having that as a guideline makes a great outline to the assignment. APA format is a little tricky. I haven't gotten the hang of it yet, but it only counts for a small percentage of the overall grade. Group projects, ehh. Only had one so far and I ended up doing almost the entire thing, but I got 100% on it so go me. :). Being with people online makes getting them to do their share, and their share well a little difficult. Good luck!
