EMORY ABSN+MSN 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

So I decided to start a thread for the Fall 2018. Any current/prospective student on here? What GPA did you have when you applied and how competitive is the selection process? If you don't mind sharing your work experience and GRE score, that will be awesome. For those who are enrolled, do you mind sharing your experience?

I have a red x next to my GRE, even though I had the score sent Sept. 8th. It is a very confusing process and it makes me a bit nervous.

Was your score actually sent on Sept 8th or did you ask ETS to send them for you on the 8th? If you asked them to be sent, it takes another 5-8 days for them to process the request and actually send out the score to your selected schools. But it looks like it has been long enough that I would e-mail to ask them for an update. The nursing questions e-mail is quite responsive and they will be able to tell you if your scores have been received.

Have they checked off your pre-reqs as well?

Hi @nurseB_2NP,

I got another update from Emory and it looks like from my end that the discontinuation of the dual specialty for FNP and midwifery is still happening. Since you haven't received a notification, perhaps you have been admitted to the dual specialty already? Did you find out any further information?

Admissions told me that a change of specialty form has been uploaded to my account and that once I fill it out and send it back in, the change will be official and my records will be updated. Unfortunately, I don't see a form where I can fill out in my both my application page and my OPUS account so have gone back to them for further clarification.

They also said that they will forward my comments about the discontinuation of the dual specialty to their (I assume) administration team? So at least they are receiving some feedback as to why we like having dual specialty options.

For some future food for thought, I asked admissions about any post masters options that they have since they are discontinuing the dual FNP and midwifery tracks and they confirmed that they do have that option and that as long as we fulfill the requirements which are 1) have a MSN 2) an active Georgia RN license 3) and current certification in a specialty area then we can apply to receive additional certification in another specialty area offered at Emory. The length of time for completion varies depending on which specialty you choose as your post masters option.

Hopefully, this helps everyone on the boards who were also applying to the FNP and midwifery dual track and were a little blindsided by the change.

Hey @TangoDeux,

Thank you for all of the info!

I was actually able to get in contact with someone today and I am all squared away. They confirmed that they discontinued the dual specialty effective immediately. The form that we need to complete was uploaded to my checklist and I was able to complete it.

Now - it's the waiting game!

Thanks for the info! Was the form on your application checklist or within OPUS? Even though they have said that they uploaded to my account I don't see anything. Will wait a bit and log back and see if anything has changed.

Yep, the waiting begins but I will take the time to relax a little and go do a few fun things before everything starts up again.

The form was located at the bottom of my application checklist. It was a hyperlink you can select and complete right on the website. Hopefully it shows up soon for you!

Thanks! Still nothing for me so will just have to wait and see.

I'm glad you guys are able to sort that out! Did you decide on pursuing FNP first? Also, anyone know if they'll send out decision notices soon?

Hi Soon2bBSNgrad,

The priority application deadline is Oct 15th this year and according to the website the decisions won't be released until Nov 15th. However, last year some of the students started receiving their acceptances in September and October which caused a bit of confusion to the applicants. The posted schedule didn't correspond to what was actually happening which frustrated many applicants. You can read through the threads from last year if you want to learn more.

For those of us that were originally going for the dual specialty track, I can only speak for myself but I opted to continue in midwifery. But to add a little more color to the boards and for future applicants; the following is an interesting bit of information. Admissions did tell me that those of us that are applying to the ABSN/MSN program will have the option of changing our specialties towards the end of our first year. So we are not locked into the specialty that we have chosen during the application period. The admissions officer said that around 40% of students opt to change their specialty after going through their clinicals after having a chance to experience working in different specialties.

I just got the call today that I was accepted for Summer 2018!

I got the call today! They said letters will come out in a couple weeks but that they wanted to go ahead and call.

Congrats!!!!!! I am so excited for you!!

Which specialty did you apply for?
