Due to health issues, I was unable to perform direct patient care for a year. I desperately searched for an online nursing job this entire time... with no success. Though I am currently healthy and back to work in my normal setting, I would like to ask for assistance in finding online nursing jobs in the future should I need to do this again. I found a lot of scams. Has anyone worked as a nurse from home and been successful with it? What type of work was it? Was the pay substantial?

I'm not sure how they operate but have you looked into working for a nurse call line? My insurance company offers a nurse call line, I don't see why that couldn't be done from home. Just an idea.

Medical coders make a fair living and many of them work from home, so you may wish to get certified as a medical coder. Also, look into YesRN.com They are similar to "Justanswer.com" for people to ask health questions online and you get paid per answer you give.

Many companies are employing nurses who work from home particularly in various aspects of case management and UM. The only drawback is that occasionally one will need to go onsite or attend periodic training. They would probably accommodate for your disability. Try looking at insurance companies for managed care.

If you have experience doing clinical data abstraction for Core Measures or Registry, look into Q-Centrix. They are legit and a nice company to work for.
