Online MSN programs for RN's with a BS in another field

Published

Hi all!

I am an RN that has been working on a medical floor for about 6 months. I have a BS in Kinesiology and completed an accelerated RN program (13 months straight through). I am now considering continuing my education. I am thinking along the lines of RN to MSN, but may be open to a BSN program as well, although the MSN is more appealing since I already have one Bachelors degree already. I was wondering if anyone has information on online programs that are RN to MSN? How long they usually take, good programs, if they require a certain amount of experience first etc? I'm basically looking for the most efficient way to continue my education. I am 25 with no husband or children so I would like to buckle down and do school now before I start a family etc. Any information would be appreciated!!

You can always PM me if you have specific questions I can address, but you can do your own research about the program (good practice for grad school!). Go to CSUDH.edu and find the nursing program web page. I think it is all spelled out pretty clearly and there are information seminars to go to for further info. That's what I did. Good luck!

Hi,

I'm in an ADN program now, I just started a couple weeks ago. I have a BA in another field. I decided to to the community college route for price and "ease" although the volume of work has had me wonedring whether I should have just gone for an accelerated BSN or direct entry masters. I noticed your post on CSDH and I was wondering if you had any input on their direct entry masters program (pre-licensure). It must be small because I've not heard much about it. Is it super competitive to get in? Also, while you did your MSN were you going full time or were you working and going part time. The site says the average time is 2 years -true? Where did you do your ADN?

Thanks!

The University of South Alabama has an online program for ADN RN's with a BS to go straight to MSN. It is an acclerated program. I just finished a ADN-MSN (FNP) program there and it was GREAT! Check it out.
