I need to renew my CPR- talked to someone who does a course. He said the online courses are not accepted by TX BON even if your place of employment accepts it. He said you MUST do a 'hands on' part of any course.
What have you encountered? thx

The BON accepts whatever your employer accepts. If your employer takes it, so will the Texas BON. You've noticed that you did not need CPR certification to become licensed or maintain licensure in Texas, so why would the BON govern something such as CPR courses?

Agree - the BON has no jurisdiction in this area. Validation of clinical competency/skills is up to the employer.
Hmmm That is an interesting thought. Wonder if he just wants to discourage people from doin online because it is less money in his pocket. Guess the only way to find out is to call BON!

In cases where the BON disciplines a nurse for misadventures in resuscitation, a common stipulation is that the nurse submit a current CPR course completion card. That's the only situation that comes to mind where the BON would even look at a CPR card.

Long story longer... HB 392 states all LTCF will be AED compliant and training must be hand on. BON states standards of care cpr training for all nurses every 3 yrs minimum no req for hands on. DADS mandates hand-on training to be compliant with HHSC regulations. JCAHO has started to training from online sources without hands on experiance as standard of care- with no skills evaluator to identify ability, no proof of skill. SO yes there are Texas rules and regulations governing CPR. If you work in Long Term Care the law is hands on only, if Hospital you fall under JCAHO regs (most likely) and no final ruling, BON all nurses must have CPR every 3 years as a standard of care. I know the BON does not ask to see it, but if you get into a CPR situation and flub it- you may lose your license...
