Online for Assoc. RN??

Nursing Students Online Learning

Hey everyone I am wondering if there is a online school that you can get your associates RN degree??

Excelsior isn't an option I am a medical assistant and they won't except me. I just have a family and work full time so online works best for me I am looking for any help! Thanks =)

Well that statement is an obvious. Most likely a good online program is going to have theory online with open discussions, and clinicals at a nursing facility (LTC, hospital etc). Nobody can take an online degree program and have no clinical rotations other than Excelsior. But with Excelsior people are coming in with medical backgrounds in a clinical setting. I don't think the person was meaning that they wanted everything online. I'm sure they knew that they would be going to clinical rotations at a local facility.

To the original poster: If you want to do something online then maybe you can get your LPN/LVN and then advance to Excelsior if your state allows them. Or you can also do LVN/LPN-BSN at Indiana State University. Although ISU makes you test out of stuff you did in your LVN/LPN program rather than give you credit for the classes and clinical rotations.

I originally asked the question because I work in the medical field already so I have all the hands on experience but MA's since are more clinical than hospital are viewed not elgible for excelsior. Not sure about indiana i will check that out. It's just hard I have to work full time and I am trying to get my classes done to get onto my clinicals which I can work around my schedule. So if anyone ever finds anything let me know!

Specializes in NICU/Subacute/MDS.

Western Governors University also has an Associates program with online classes. They are accredited but I believe clinicals must be done in Texas or SoCal.

As a Medical Assistant you don't have all of the hands on experience. What you have is experience from a clinics view. What they're looking for in a nurse is to have med surg experience for clinicals. Working in a clinic is way different than working in a med surg setting. I'm not saying that you don't have the experience, you're just lacking in the general med surg and also in pharmacology which is also very important in nursing school. Medical Assistants do take a pharmacology class but it doesn't go in depth like it does in nursing school.

Look into Online University | Online Degree | Accredited Bachelor's and Master's Degrees if you live in southern CA, TX, or UT. Their program is very reasonably priced and you only need to have at least a CNA certificate to qualify. They don't talk about MAs, but you can contact them and find out. I do not see why an MA couldn't do their program. If not, all you have to do is get a CNA certificate and take it from there.
