this one LVN program has low NCLEX-PN pass rates, should i go there?

Published

I am interested in this one LVN program near by my house but the NCLEX-PN scores are consistently low from the 60 to 70% pass range for each year class over a span of 5 years. Should I go to this LVN program or will it make any difference to go to another LVN program?

I would. My school's % was 64 last year. This year all 4 that have taken it have passed. Sometimes low scores are not a reflection of the school, but of the students.

You should attend this school, even if the pass rates are low. The reality of LVN school is that you'll end up teaching most of the material to yourself no matter which school you end up attending. There's not enough time in each school day for the instructors to possibly teach you everything you need to know.

It is not the quality of the school that dictates whether or not you'll pass the NCLEX examination. Rather, it is the quality of your effort. If you put a lot into LVN school, you'll get a lot out of it.

Or the program's cadidate selection process.

I thought schools had to have an 83% passage rate to keep their program?

Which begs the question - What is this school's accreditation status?

Amen to that! That's why you have to buy all of those books!

In California, LVN programs need to have a 70 percent NCLEX pass rate in order to maintain their state approval. If the school falls below 70 percent, the LVN program is placed on probation. If, after a specified amount of time, the NCLEX test scores do not rise, the program will not remain state-approved.

Basically it depends on the state involved. Some states are more lenient than California, whereas other states might be more strict.

SJSU Nursing Program has the worst staffs, especially program coordinator who is very absive verbally and some other clinical and lecture staffs. They expect that you are naturally born nurses.

Also remember that some schools with higher pass rate mayweed alot more students out. So if your an A student choose one of those schools. If your not booksmart but good on your feet then why choose a school that will turn you out with nothing to show at the end. Which is worse failing school or having to take the nclex 2x.
