Once you're accepted how do you register for classes?

You know when you're in the community college, you get a priority number, and the date to register for classes and etc.

Is that same in the nursing program? Do you have to register for classes, or do they register you automatically since you're part of the program/group/class?

Any thoughts on this?

thanks in advance

HI Wikireader,

What cc program did you get in to? I think you need to register for the classes. I got in to Merritt's radiology program and I got a packet of info saying that I needed to register. They provided a list of classes to sign up for.

Good luck with you. What program are you going to go to?

I saw in earlier posts that you also got in to SMC. Are you going to go to a cc program instead? I got in to SMC San Mateo ABSN, Chabot's nursing, and Merritt's radiology. Now I'm trying to decide what to do. I'm leaning towards SMC because it's only a year and I get a BSN. But, I have days when I want to do radiology. I may register for the radiology classes and SMC classes in order to give me more time to decide.

Thank you,

I am planning to attend SMC, not cc.

So they should be sending a package with the list of classes you need to register. Do you know how long in advance (before the semester starts) they send them?

That's great you got in to several programs. I think SMC's ABSN program is the best; you'll be done in 12 months+with BSN. Also, I heard that they offer grants and other very good fin.aids for undergraduate students.

What SMC campus are you going to? I'm going to be at the San Mateo campus. Did you receive the email on 4/18 with instructions and forms for registering for classes? I believe the mass email went out to the Oakland and San Mateo ABSN students. I already filled out the forms and emailed them to the registration person.

If you didn't receive the email, you should call SMC. Let me know if you need any more info.

Sorry, wrong date. The email came out on 4/14 with the subject "08SU UGAPEN class registration". It included the class schedules and registration form.

At my nursing school, as like most nursing schools, all registration for nursing classes was dependent upon what happened at the mandatory start of school meetings. We all met in a large classroom and several faculty were there. They used a system to determine which students were in which clinical group, etc. and which students who were waiting for openings, would be included. Then they would sign your add paperwork when the class sections were placed on the paperwork. You couldn't just register over the phone or online or in person like you normally would, because you didn't know what section you would be in until this meeting. At this point, if you have any questions about the process, it would be a good idea to phone the school and ask. You might not get an info packet that was mailed to you. Good luck.

Thanks guys,

actually I am in the ELMSN program, not the ABSN.

ilovemusak,

when is your start date?

Specializes in acute care.

Every school is different. At my school, the schedules are pre-made according to which semester you are going in, but there are different sections for each class so there will be different days off. All we have to do is show up and pick a schedule based on what day(s) we want off during the week.

Hey Wikireader -

Good luck on the ELMSN program!! That's great that you go in the program. I start on June 11th.

I applied to the ELMSN-FNP but didn't make it in. I really wanted the ABSN program because I'm an older student and don't want to go to school for another 2-1/2 yers. ELMSN was to be my 2nd choice if I didn't get in the ABSN. Weird as it is, on Friday SMC sent me a letter asking if I wanted to be considered for the ELMSN-CM program. The program is filled but they are trying to develop a wait list, and they anticipate letting some of the waitlist people in.

Guess they want to make sure they fill in every spot so that they can make all the $$ they can.

I know the ELMSN program is little longer than the ABSN prog. but I think both programs are very good programs (very expensive though!)

Your start date is in June, that's why you already got that email with reg.info. We are still in the process of doing physical exams and etc.

Hi Wiki - I'm in the ELMSN program too - but I haven't really gotten anything in the mail from them. Have you? I haven't even heard a date about a new student orientation, classes etc. The only thing I received is a letter about their online forum. Oh and the acceptance packet a while ago.

Hi Sparkly,

I got the welcome package, package from the fin.office, and that online forum letter. Other than that nothing yet.

Are you done with your fin papers?
