just thinking and The more brains the better

I have often thought about doing something similar - striking out on my own. Helping clients with more complicated procedures like IVs and ports and navigating our difficult healthcare system. I have also done it for a friend, and can say that it was stimulating, satisfying, and rewarding. I felt like I was a real 360 degrees / all round nurse. It can also be extremely sad and tough, as with everything.

Specializes in Community Health, Med/Surg, ICU Stepdown.

For some reason I feel like asking people to pay me to advocate for their healthcare needs sounds icky. Like taking advantage of people who are not educated or don’t have social support, although those people can’t afford it and clients would likely be those who are already privileged.
I think the nurse navigator positions sound better since it’s set up by the organization and patients are not paying out of pocket on top of medical costs. But that is just my opinion and maybe I am too idealistic or judgmental or something else negative ??

Nurse Navigator is a well-known branch of nursing. They are mostly employed by centers providing highly complex care which can be overwhelming for patients, like advanced oncology.

I personally know a LPN who is her own boss doing private duty psych and gery/psych. She has tons of experience and a sort of magic touch with that kind of patients, and she gradually educated herself to the point she knows things many psychiatrists have no idea about. She sometimes stays with the patient 24/7 for a week or more, has waiting list and charges a lot of $$$.

I must relocate there ASAP!

We have beautiful mountains and all 4 seasons up North. If you like it hot and slow St George would be your place.?
