On Call Vs. Commute

Published

Hello all,

Which would you rather do if benefits and pay were the exact same? Both are 4 days per week (OR).

Job 1) Commute only 16 mins in the morning, but 40mins to 60mins for the way home. No call.

Job 2) Only 7 minute commute. Has call 1-2 times during the week and the entire weekend every 5th week.

Thank you!

That amount of call is ridiculous. Heck no. Ill take the comute in the evening. Its not even a terrible amount of time. Call IMO ruins all your plans. No thanks

Yeah, it's a lot of call. It's not level 1 trauma call at least (I've been there and done that kind of OR call, never again). It's strictly eye surgery. They say they go 3 weekends in a row without being called in at all. I'm finishing my online BSN course in about 9 months so I'll be "stuck" in my apartment writing papers for awhile anyway. The hwy that the commute is on is the 16th worst in America for traffic congestion. I've had to make up my mind already and I'm just going to have to roll with it. Truly thanks for your opinions everyone even if I did end up doing the opposite!

I would take Job 2 also. Make some money out of school and pay some stuff off. Thats what im doing ( or did until my little monster came along )
