Does Kaplan really helps? it's a quite expensive for me, im a foreign student, just got here in US about 4mos ago. I hope to some feedback from Kaplan, is the Qbank good?

ok call me the bubble popper here...

First of all congrats to all that have graduated and further congrats to those that have already passed the Nclex beast. but.. I have to correct ya'll Taking the Kaplan review course is great for a lot of people but does not seal the deal with the Nclex. I've taken the kaplan course and not passed my boards. The strategies that kaplan teaches do work, they cause you to break the questions and answers down. However, even if u can break the answer down to two answers you still have to have the knowledge base and critical thinking skills to know the why behind each of those two answers to determine which one to go with. The nclex doesn't want to know what you will do on the floor, it doesn't want to know if you know how to position a pt. for example. It wants to know if u know the why behind your positioning them. Wheather you know that by having the client in that position is promoting or preventing something from happening. The exam doesn't expect you to KNOW everything by any means. It DOES expect you to be able to do more than just rattle off the information you have learned. It isn't enough to say hey i know the normal level of Na or K+, you have HAVE to know why that level matters. It wants to know if you know how to interpret that level and critically think what or why that lab level is even important.

Which is why I think Kaplan isn't enough. If your school like mine didn't adequately teach you how to critically think it won't matter if you can look at all four answers and throw out two of them. What good is getting down to the two remaining answers if you still don't know which of the two to choose. Just a thought like I said I know I'm a bubble popper, the good news is that the majority of you have gone through a program that did facilitate those critical thinking skills and nursing judgement. I just didn't want everyone to think that by taking the Kaplan course that, that ment the would surely pass or that by not taking it they were screwing themselves or missing out. Their are definetly plenty of other ways to learn the material and the stratagies for boards. :typing
