I've tossed this back and forth and back and forth for 2 years now! Finally i feel ready to begin the EC program to get my RN. I have some grant money to help which will pay for all but the CPNE so now there really isnt an excuse as to why i can't do this! :)
For the past year i've taken some distance learning classes and have done extremely well on them. The only thing i'm a little bit worried about is figuring out a "schedule" to study by. Can some one give me some tips/hints?
I have to take A&P, Micro, and Lifespan psychology, and then the nursing exams...what would you recommend starting with? Any suggestions welcomed!
I'm really focused on doing this, i'm ready and willing and able!!!!

congrats and welcome aboard! i started about a year ago and am almost done...i remember all too well how it felt trying to decide whether or not to commit! so glad i did it! if you have not enrolled yet, it would probably be best to get those gen eds out of the way first...and then the first 2 nursing classes. you can do all that before you pay the $895 to be fully enrolled. once you pay the enrollment fee, the clock starts ticking and for every year it takes to finish, they charge $440 (i think). plus, you don't want to finish your nursing classes and still be facing gen eds while trying to get through the vast amount of material for the cpne, if you can avoid it. as for actually taking the classes, it varies for everyone, but for myself, i have found that once i actually schedule the exam, i am committed to studying for it. without the date on the books, i procrastinate! even if it's a ways down the road, when you have a deadline, you have a goal. good luck in your studies, i think you'll find allnurses and the epn on the excelsior website both excellent resources!
Thanks so much for your reply! I applied to EC, and have not paid the enrollement feel yet, as someone mentioned to me that i could hold off on that and take the gen eds and the two nursing first! Thank goodness! I'm thinking of just starting with Health Safety, to get my feet wet...lol...i'm scared of A&P and micro, but i'm sure someone on here finished those as well at some point.
Any tips on how you studied and what one you started with? I'm going to put up the money for the pracice exams as well seeing how most people have mentioned they help a lot too...if you took them when did you take them? At the beginning before studying or right befor you took your exam?

how did you get grants for the program? i was told you couldn't....unless you got it before hand and just had it lying around! it sucks that you pretty much have to pay for it out of pocket, or take out private loans for it. no fun. :s

Tasha is a military spouse, so she qualifies for some funding that way. :)
And Tasha, I'm glad to see you in this forum! Welcome back.

Good for you Tasha! I too have mulled over the decision to join up at EC but just sent in to take my first two tests. I had hesitated when they stalled the MyCAA thing but since they started it back up again, I am pushing ahead! As for tips, I'm probably not the best to get any from - yet! - since I am just starting but I am making sure to schedule my tests so that I will be motivated to study!!
ohhhh! got it! :) well good luck to you....I hope to be getting my butt in gear to start soon, too!

I'm in the same boat! I too have to take those gen eds along with the nursing classes...I have started with A&P and I started paying for the exam.....I'm supposed to take it by June 30th....does anyone know when I should schedule it? How long does it usually take to get a test date?
I was going to start with A& P and chickened out, figured id take the first nursing exam instead sine i am probably better on that than a&p...lol...needed a confidence booster
I thought about that too, but figured I should probably brush up on my basics since it's been awhile! I have to admit that I am terrified to take micro...never was good at that kind of stuff:uhoh3:
