Hello, I am new to this site and am soooo glad it's available. I just got my RN license reinstated a couple of months ago and got a job and everything. I was super excited, until I met with the nursing board a couple of weeks ago. They informed me I am on the OIG exclusion list. I have never heard of this before and it never came up during the two years I have been working on getting my license reinstated.
I just received the application to be removed from the exclusion list and have been working on it all day. I am just waiting on some character references and a statement from the court. I did receive a pre-trial diversion and got a couple misdemeanor charges since I was placed on the exclusion list in 2010. I hope this doesn't keep me from being removed and I hope I submit all the needed information to the OIG.
Does anyone have any experience with this? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

I don't know from first hand but after some research I found:
Understanding the OIG’s List of Excluded Individuals/Entities - Streamline Verify
Showing there are time frames for certain convictions.....
The author had to include "so it's best to avoid ending up there at all." Like if we all knew these things were out there and intended on making it on the "list"...... Numnuts

Yes I am presently filling my own paperwork out for removal from that same list. My criminal convictions all happened before I was placed on the list. If your license was reinstated, be sure the nursing board notifies the NPDB about that.
I'm a bit surprised that your employer didn't ask if you were on the OIG Exclusions list. Anyone that is reimbursed by Medicare or Medicaid can't hire anyone who is on the list, at least the last time I checked.
When you fill out your paperwork, do it completely and follow the instructions to the letter. Initial everything even if it doesn't apply to you. Get it in well before the 90 day deadline. I know this stuff sounds basic but I'd hate to see you get tripped up over BS. Lastly, I sent it certified mail with a tracking number, so I would know they got it. Good luck and keep us posted.
Thank you for the feedback. I am still waiting on a statement from the court explaining my charges and pre-trial diversion, and I really hope I can get that next week. I am eager to get all this sent back to the OIG. I will definitely post what the outcome is.
Wanted to let everyone know I have been removed from the OIG exclusion list, and have started back to work. Thanks to all who posted and for your concern and support í ½í¸Š

Hi I am worried I will be put on list.
question
do you get placed on the npdb first? Is that a precursor to oig list?
are you on the npdb as well?
can you go through steps you took to get off oig list?

Hi there! I am so happy you got your life back together. I'm wondering if you were on the OIG list as well as the National Practitioner Data Bank? I am not on the OIG list (yet) but am
on the other. My license is on probation at this time, however I violated it by testing positive for alcohol. I'm in the process of fighting for my license and to keep probation. FYI. Any input helps! Thanks!
nicki: Depends on what your circumstances are, as to whether you will be placed on both the NPDB and OIG. One can be placed on the NPDB and not the OIG. They are not necessarily together in this process. One is under the auspices of the DOJ while the other HHS I think.
If you are placed on the OIG list, it will usually be for a period of years. At the end of this time, you have to send a written appeal to them and request to reinstate/be taken off the list. They will send you a packet of papers to fill out, within 90 days of receipt, notarized and with all supporting documentation if indicated. After this, it will take (usually) several weeks before you are notified by mail.
I just got off the Excluded list of the OIG, too.

What did the packet consist of?
The packet is several pages of questions which all require initials and if applicable, questions to answer. There are also occasional requirements of documentation if it applies. Read all instructions, and follow it to the letter. You have 90 days to answer (send everything back). Do yourself a favor and get it right the first time so you don't have to do it all over again. They are very explicit about that part.
