OHSU's Accelerated BSN 2015 cohort

Published

Hi there everyone. I didn't see a thread started yet, so I thought I would start one.

I am applying for the 2015 Accelerated BSN cohort (Portland campus) and am very nervous about the whole process with Nursing CAS and having transcripts sent to them.

I am also curious if anyone out there has an idea of what they are looking for and who will get interviews? It makes me nervous that there is no essay, so I assume that interviews will be based on grades alone. I have an undergraduate degree in Art History with a 3.64 GPA and a prereq GPA of 3.76 from PCC. Does anyone know if I even stand a chance? I have taken all of the prerequisites except for Micro, which I plan on taking in the winter.

It sounds like the interviews and no essays is a new thing? Does anyone know? Here's to hoping I at least get an interview!

Hey all! It's been a while. Have any of you heard of people being pulled from the alternate list? I've accept a spot in CCC's nursing program but would JUMP if I got a call from OHSU. Anyway.. just curious!

I talked to admissions a few weeks ago and they were still working through the alternate list. I was told to wait to speak to an admissions counselor until mid-June because the acceptance process is still on-going.

I've heard nothing. Haven't heard of a single person coming off the waitlist. I got into an ADN program, but my biggest nightmare of the moment is that I'll get a call from OHSU the day before classes start, and have to make a split-second decision.

I'm in the exact same boat. I got in to Clackamas' ADN program. Where are you going? If OHSU called me the day before, I'd still take the spot. I want sooooo badly to be in this ABSN program.

So I just called OHSU and they're in the process of finalizing the Fall Cohort, meaning it's filled at this point. It sounds like they're still working on the Summer Cohort. They of course mentioned they often have late minute drop-outs, and they're still in the "highly likely" alternate list.

Wow, I'm surprised they gave you this much info. Both time I've called, they've been super secretive and won't tell me much of anything. Good to know. I'm not holding my breath, but I would love to get a call from them.

I got in to Chemeketa's ADN. There are pros and cons to each program. I can work while at CCC and have less loans, I took pre-reqs there and they are very easy to work with, professional, and transparent. Would rather do the shorter route to a BSN, but OHSU would be a much bigger commute and much much bigger loans, so I honestly don't know which I would take if offered a last-minute spot. I'm on the "highly-likely" alternate list.

I was on the "moderate" list. I accepted my spot at Linfield. Sounds like OHSU is really keeping people out of the loop. I will never understand why. There is no reason for it. I would love to spend less money at OHSU, but it looks like that's not going to happen. Good luck to everyone who still might have a chance!

I agree with you 100%... I did a few pre-reqs at Clackamas, I enjoy working with everyone there, and I feel like they're very upfront with you about what their program is like, cost, etc. I'll have a much smaller loan and a much shorter commute (which doesn't include the parking nightmare at OHSU). I just would much rather do the shorter route to a BSN, like you. I'm on the moderately likely list, so I'm pretty sure there's not a chance in hell I'll be offered a spot, but hey, I can dream, right?

Hello everyone--I'm a bit late to the party here. I was just emailed by admissions on Friday and told that a spot had opened up for the fall cohort and I was next on the wait list. I totally wasn't expecting it because I had applied to the summer cohort back in March and got my denial letter 4 months ago, and was put in the "moderately likely" section of the wait list. I've decided I am taking the spot and so I am looking forward to starting the ABSN in fall! Anyone need a roommate?

I'm totally jealous! I guess the good news is your admission shows there's hope for the rest of us :) Did they give you any additional information on far they've made it through the waitlist or anything? Congratulations!

Thank you!! They didn't say how far they had made it through the wait list, but I know I was in the 'moderately likely' category, or whatever the middle part of the wait list was called. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I had applied to the summer cohort, which started in June. I had no idea my wait list spot would be applied to the next cohort, although I'm certainly not complaining!
