OHSU BSN PDX program applicants - 2010

U.S.A. Oregon

Published

Hi,

Anyone else out there getting anxious to hear from OHSU's Portland campus for their BSN program? They said they'll notify in early May which is still a month away, but I just want to know now! It's my first time applying and the only program that I applied to this year, so I'm not counting on it.

Good luck to everyone!

:)

News from Mt Hood:

Thank you for your application to the Mt. Hood Community College Nursing program

starting Fall 2010 / Winter 2011. While your application is complete, you have not been

selected at this time for an interview. However, as Nursing schools are very competitive,

MHCC applicants often receive offers from other Nursing schools. Every year, a few of

our applicants decline prior to their scheduled MHCC interview, which creates a vacancy

in the interview pool.

If an applicant declines the interview, you are eligible to be contacted for an interview. If

you do not wish to be contacted for an interview with the Nursing Program, please

contact Judy Froehlich, at 503-491-7341.

You are encouraged to reapply for Fall 2011 admission into this program or any other

Allied Health Programs. If you do reapply for 2011 admission into the Nursing program,

you will need to review the new application thoroughly.

The Oregon Consortium for Nursing Education is currently reviewing the Nursing

application packet. Upon completion of their review, our college will post the 2011

application packet on our website. If you have any questions regarding the content of

this letter, please contact the Admissions/Transcript Evaluator for the Nursing program,

at 503-491-7341.

Thank you for your interest in Mt. Hood Community College and good luck in

your educational pursuits.

I got my reject letter from PCC, but was accepted into two BSN programs and have an interview at MHCC. I do not have a 4.0 and just wanted to encourage you to hang in there because there is hope even with B's!

Hey-

I was wondering if anyone has heard anything as far as the OHSU admissions for the Fall 2010 BSN program. Thank you!!

I am an applicant for the OHSU BSN program for Fall 2010. I am a transfer from AZ and have a 3.65 GPA. I also am a registered CNA and have over 150 volunteer hours at Doernbecher Childrens Hospital at OHSU. I also have volunteer hours from other hospitals. I am wondering what people think of my chances getting in. Do they award points for volunteer hours, and does it help if they were at OHSU>

I dont think that OHSU really uses a point system. I think they look at everything as a whole and some things may get weighted more that others.

What things get weighted more than others? Is GPA their biggset concern, or is it volunteer work, or essay? I called today and they said that the letters will not be mailed out May 3rd but later in the week. I am so anxious!

Did you mean OHSU will be mailing them out this week or later during the week of May 3rd ?

Later during the week of May 3rd

That's great to know the letters won't be mailed on Monday, I won't run to the mailbox on Tuesday expecting it! :) I'm not sure what OHSU focuses on for admittance as this is my first time applying. Due to sheer volume, they must have a GPA cut-off, then they focus on the essay? Just my guess.

I would guess that the GPA isnt the main focus. My only reason for thinking this is that last years average GPA was around 3.75 and I would guess the get enough 4.0 applicants to easily fill a class with all 4.0 students. I know they say they look at science GPA, overall GPA, and the essay. So in my opinion I think the essay is what they use as the biggest factor. The majority of the applicants are probably more than qualified on paper but the essay is what makes someone stand out enough to decide that they are a good overall fit. Thats just my opinion though.

When can I stop blaming my mail person for not have my letter of acceptance? I have been waiting for so long and keeping my hopes so far out there for OHSU. I am a little concerned that if I don't get in I wont be happy with the school I did get into, my finals are suffering because all I can think about is that letter! Because all my classes are mostly prenursing requirements all the other prenursing students are jazzed because they all know wither they are in or out, I am still biting my nails and climbing the walls. Please OHSU end the suffering!

I received a phone call from OHSU yesterday re: the BSN PDX program. I was nervous and excited because I'd heard that if you received a call you probably got in, otherwise they send out letters. Well, unfortunately she was calling to tell me that I did NOT get in, and asked if I wanted her to transfer my application materials to Ashland, my second choice. I was pretty bummed...anyone else have this experience? I found this a little strange, as I was wait-listed for the Accelerated program...but not for the regular program. Ah well...good luck everyone!
