OHSU BSN, Fall 2021

Published

Hi, first post because I cannot find that much information about this!
Apps recently opened to OHSU's BSN program. I haven't decided if I want to apply to Ashland or Monmouth - I am currently in California (don't hate me Oregonians) but most of my family live close to those two campuses.

Anyone else start their application for OHSU yet?

Also - Any tips for essay question responses? I have a 3.9 GPA in the prereqs and overall, finished all prereqs, and have 4000+ hours of healthcare experience as a medical assistant, but I feel like I still might screw it up if I flub those responses.

Congratulations to everyone who got into the Ashland campus! Still waiting super anxiously (!) for Portland. Best of luck everyone! BTW any idea on the actual number of seats offered per year? Thanks!

I saw this in an earlier part of this conversation!

Here are some statistics from our last application cycle:

 ·         Portland: 515 applicants/ 24 spots for Summer, 32 spots for fall

·         Ashland: 135 applicants/ 27 spots for Summer

Summer is for the acc bac cohort. I want to say there’s 32 slots for traditional ocne BSN cohort at Ashland each year.

Specializes in CNA2.

Got an email from Ashland campus today. I'm listed as "highly" likely on the alternate list.. Does anyone know the deadline for accepting admission? I'm curious as to when I can expect to hear back about if I make it or not. Thanks and congratulations to everyone who got accepted!

I’ve heard of people getting called a week before the start of class, don’t count yourself out. A lot of people apply to several programs and OHSU might not be their first choice d/t high cost and an extra year before you can work vs RCC

Hi!

I hope we hear from Portland campus soon. It’s driving me crazy. I didn’t get in at PCC so that is very disheartening. Im waitlisted at Linfield. I’m trying not to get down on myself. I literally read these post everyday?

Do you know why a lot of people choose OHSU over PCC, even though it is more expensive and you have an extra year before you can work? I know PCC gives you the option to finish your bachelors after passing your NCLEX, but every person I ask says they would rather attend OHSU’s program over PCC. Are they really that different? You would think the cost would drive people to choose PCC

Hey! They didn't tell us when the deadline to accept is. My email said they would send us an official offer next week so it will probably have that info in it, I'll let you know when I know! Fyi if I'm accepted to RCC I'm going to RCC instead so fingers crossed for both of us ?

How many of you accepted to the Ashland campus knew one of the interviewers? I know several people accepted that did. Not sure how I feel about that. ?

I didn't know anyone but that would make me super annoyed...

As I know, there are 2 reasons that people choose OHSU over PCC. First, it is more difficult to get acceptance from PCC nursing program than OHSU. Second, when you want to finish your bachelor from PCC to OHSU, you need to apply OHSU accelerate program again. In other word, you need to do 2 applications (1 for ADN program in PCC and 1 for ADN to BSN in OHSU) to finish Your bachelors. However, if you get acceptance from OHSU nursing program, you can get a bachelors by 1 admission process. There are Pros and cons for both options, and it depends on each applicant’s situation.

Hey JC! I’ll choose OHSU over community college because I plan on applying to grad school at some point and I fee like it will help me more. It’s just a personal preference. I wouldn’t think the two programs are too different.

I work with nurses who graduated from OCNE consortium schools and they’ve told me there is a seamless transition between RN to BSN from OHSU. If they’re not from an OCNE school then it would be harder to transfer to OHSU to get your bachelor’s degree

People choose ohsu for a couple reasons; first, in some cases its actually easier to get into ohsu in some areas as the community colleges can have more applicants (again, due to cost.... BSN looks nice, but isn’t a REQUIREMENT for most places). Some employers require certain accreditation. For instance, the VA did not recognize the RCC programs accrediting body, so if I wanted to work there I had to go to OHSU. Third, OHSU is a recognized, respected name in the state. People like to feel like they went somewhere special vs. a community college.

I went to ohsu for the second reason. At the time I applied to nursing programs, I worked at the VA and was planning to use their VANEEP program to pay for it.
