OHSU Accelerated BSN to MSN Nurse-FNP 2015

Published

Hello All, I noticed that there was not yet a thread for the ABSN to MSN program at OHSU for the upcoming 2015 cohort. Specifically, I applied to the new FNP focused program.

I am very curious to hear about other folks' advice, thoughts, and information relative to the process. I have never applied to any kind of medical related program before, I feel a little unclear on the process for interviews and expectations.

I received an invitation to interview a little over a week ago and am scheduled for late February.

What is going on for others?

Did you apply to the DNP or MSN? I applied straight through to the DNP, but submitting a paper felt very stressful for some reason. I hope that that was the right choice, but I knew that I wanted to get there eventually, I couldn't think of any good excuse to put it off.

Best of luck to all, and would really appreciate others' thoughts and perspectives.

Hi modaproximate, I also applied for the AccBac-FNP program. I have scoured the web looking for tips on what to expect during the interview, but no such luck. I also emailed Admissions to ask and never got a reply. I have no idea who will be interviewing us, how long the interviews will take, whether there will be a proctored essay, etc. Have you found any information?

I have not....good luck today anyway! Will you be there for the lunch? Maybe we'll meet :)

Best.

I did my interview remotely. Sorry I missed meeting you!

In case anyone in the future is looking for information on interviews, here was my experience: Three interviewers, five questions, some with two parts. I don't remember the exact questions, but they were pretty standard. For example: How would you deal with a patient who has a different opinion or point of view from your own; how would you deal with a preceptor who is difficult to work with; describe a frustrating situation at work and how you handled it; what's your understanding of the profession/speciality; how will you manage working independently after graduation; how will you manage the intensity of the program. After they asked their questions, I was given the opportunity to ask mine. There wasn't a lot of chit chat; it was all business. Towards the end they all seemed to have warmed up a bit and it felt like more of a conversation. We were finished after about 40-45 minutes.

Hey there

Anyone know when we should be hearing about the 2015 OHSU FNP decisions? I know we should be hearing back soon. I just don't know if it will be early or later on in the month. It would be nice to know the specified time frame, so I don't spend the next month stalking the poor mailman.

Hey Llama! I just got an acceptance from OHSU this morning!

Lexical

Wow! That's great. I actually called the admissions office this am and was told decisions wouldn't be mailed out for 1-2 weeks. Which program did you apply to? MN or DNP?

Thanks!

I applied to the MN and received an email this morning!

Thanks!

I applied to the MN and received an email this morning!

Congrats, lexical! How long do they give you to make a decision?

Congrats on the acceptance. I'm already in nursing school, but I did apply to OHSU prior to starting and was not accepted. I would have killed to go there though, except for that $$ tuition. phew! Any who, if you were accepted, what were your stats or special stand out moments that you felt helped you get accepted?

My husband and I are considering moving to Portland (from FL) after I graduate!

The email I received said I was accepted into the cohort, and that I will received the official letter (with more details) this week!!

So details to come.

I am interested in starting a facebook page for the 2015 cohort. Please PM me!

In terms of my stats:

-I went to a competitive school and received a GPA of 3.4. My GRE scores were around 90th percentile.

-My soft statistics include lots of work with the underserved community. I stressed this during the interview because I feel that this is why I am so passionate about OHSU and becoming an NP. I also had 2 independent research projects during undergraduate school, and am now involved with clinical research.

If you'd like more details, please feel free to PM me! :)

Congrats to those who got in! I've been waitlisted, but I have a place waiting for me at MGH-IHP if necessary. Does anyone know how that process works? Or how many people are on the list? Apparently they have up until classes start to inform us about openings. Any info would be great! And once again, congratulations to those who got in.
