Anyone else applying to OHSU's accelerated bachelors program this year? The application seems to be open, though I'm not seeing a place to select a specialty within it.
Hey all -- I saw on a few other school's boards that people were starting up facebook groups for accepted students, as it may be an easier way to connect and ask questions and get to know a little about the rest of the cohort. I started one and if you feel like finding it, go for it. Turns out March starts tomorrow, and that means we'll be in PDX before we know it :)
The address is http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_144112898984572
If that doesn't work, it's called OHSU ABM starting 2011, so you could try searching for it!
All best-

Hi Lola-
I just called the admissions office since they said we should know by the end of the month, and unfortunately...we won't! The woman i spoke with said they hadn't received all of the PMHNP applicant files back from the admissions committee, and that decisions should be sent out in a week "or so". Just wanted to pass this along since I know you're probably waiting on pins and needles as am I =)

Junipers - any idea what you did right to get a financial aid package? I would assume getting the financial aid package is a very good sign :)
I was admitted for CNM but when I called the Financial Aid Office to ask about financial aid packages they said not to expect anything until April! OHSU is by far the most expensive of the programs I have been admitted to, but I loved it so much. I would love to be able to make it work if possible but don't know if I can justify the tuition difference.
I feel the exact same way about OHSU, Calinursetobe. I want it so badly, and I know it's 'the best' according to one very prominent list. But it's so much money. One thing that I think is nice, or I'm just trying to convince myself... sometimes things come up that you don't anticipate, right? Heaven forbid you need to stop or take a break or something after the first year, or even into the specialty years -- you have that BSN to fall back on, and you can go out and work. Can't do that so easily if you're in a program that doesn't award the BSN, i.e. Yale or Vandy (or UCSF? I forget.). I worry a lot about a family somethingorother coming up (I'm a worrier), and having to take a break from school, and oddly enough I feel kind of good about the idea that I might be able to break and work if I had to after the first year (though I'd probably lose my spot in the specialty years, or have to take a full year off, whatever). Just a super fall back plan (I'm there to be a CNM, NOT stop at RN), and possibly just my mind trying to rationalize the cost. It's. Just. So. Much. But I love Portland. And if I went to Yale (waiting to hear, tomorrow I hope) I'd have to take #$@*%&$ statistics again. Seriously. That in itself is worth some additional OHSU money.
Cali - I filled out my FAFSA and sent it to OHSU and I think that prompted an automated letter. I am sure the packet you will get in April will be much more personalised! I am finding it hard not to assume that I didn't get in, since admitted CNM folks got phone calls. But it would be nice to get at least a waitlist letter. It is a lot of money, but somebody called it a magical medical wonderland and I have to agree. I would Love to have the opportunity to attend!

Thanks Tanya!
They said they'd tell us by the end of February so maybe they're using the weekend and will make calls Monday...Keep me posted and I'll do the same.
Thanks again.
