Hi everyone!
I just started my application for OHSU's ABSN-MSN/DNP in Midwifery program, so I figured I should start a thread like there was for previous cohorts since I have a bunch of questions about the application.
To start: I noticed that there is only one application for admission to both programs (ABSN-MSN and ABSN-DNP), does the single application cover both programs? Or would I need to apply twice if I were to apply to both? Is it possible to apply to both?
I originally was only going to apply to the ABSN-MSN program, but if the ABSN-DNP is also an option I wouldn't mind also applying to it. Though I would assume the ABSN-DNP competition is tougher than the ABSN-MSN, is that true? Or are there less applicants making it less competitive?
I would love really any insight on the programs and the application processes!
@sabamidwife, I was offered an interview, and my stats are: 3.93 GPA, 161Q/165V/5 GRE, BA in Human Biology, one year as a doula (volunteering at low-income hospital + my own clients), wrote my senior thesis in Pitocin back in college. Have some other volunteer and internship experiences in health care that are not directly related to birth.
Is there anyone on this thread who had their interview last week? Would you mind sharing your experiences with it?
Hi all,
Just got word of my interview yesterday - very excited. I found this on the forum for last year's (or maybe the year before; I copy-and-pasted it awhile ago) applicants in terms of what to expect:
In case anyone in the future is looking for information on interviews, here was my experience: Three interviewers, five questions, some with two parts. I don't remember the exact questions, but they were pretty standard. For example: How would you deal with a patient who has a different opinion or point of view from your own; how would you deal with a preceptor who is difficult to work with; describe a frustrating situation at work and how you handled it; what's your understanding of the profession/speciality; how will you manage working independently after graduation; how will you manage the intensity of the program. After they asked their questions, I was given the opportunity to ask mine. There wasn't a lot of chit chat; it was all business. Towards the end they all seemed to have warmed up a bit and it felt like more of a conversation. We were finished after about 40-45 minutes.
I also recently interviewed for the comparable program at UPenn, and thought I would share that my interviewer there asked questions that seemed more like they were trying to assess how well I knew the midwifery / nursing landscape today - what challenges did I see US midwives facing in the next ten years, what did I think my first year as a nurse would be like, what previous contact had I had with midwives, etc. Hope that helps!!
Hi Everyone!
I was rejected, unfortunately but I'd love to keep in touch with you other applicants. I'm interested in what other programs you're applying for or considering, and what the rest of you plan to do until that magical day we get accepted? Given the competitiveness of the programs, I go back and forth between despair and hope, and it would be great to support each other through the process!
Don't give up, I have heard that often applicants who were rejected the first time will get accepted when they apply again!
Also, did you interview? Just curious if people who interviewed are already hearing back.
Also, did anyone who interviewed happen to ask when we would find out?? I forgot to ask that!

We find out in 2 weeks, roughly. I was told we can also call within that timeframe if we don't hear back and need to notify other programs.
