OHSU ABSN/DNP 2023

Published

Hello everyone! This thread is for folks applying to OHSU's ABSN/DNP 2023 program.

Feel free to introduce yourself, ask questions and offer guidance and support to other candidates. Please be respectful and kind and remember that this is a long, exhausting, expensive, stressful journey for lots of people. Let's do our best to uplift and help each other. Good luck!

I can't figure out how to reply but if anyone wants to connect for the ashland program my email is [email protected] !

Hi everyone! I was accepted into the Ashland's Summer 2023 cohort for just the ABSN program. Congratulations to everyone!

@JacJM I see you are looking for potential housemates. I was looking at housing and rent in Ashland and wow it's rough. I relocated to Vancouver WA this past year and the rent down there is a lot higher than Portland! I would be interested in connecting to see if we'd be a good fit. If you're not into that idea, totally fine. I also don't know how to DM on here haha

@001nursing as well. I tried to email the address you provided, but it didn't go through.

If either of you want to contact me (or anyone else headed to Ashland), an email I use is [email protected]

Hey there! Congrats! Definitely into the idea of sharing a home! I'm in conversation with Keri (001Nursing) via email. Are you interested in joining the conversation. A couple of emails to each other to get some baseline information, and then maybe the three of us can plan to facetime at some point? Email me at [email protected] if you're interested.

I got an acceptance email from OHSU today. ABSN Fall term cohort in Portland. I'm excited but also confused. I got accepted to Concordia St Paul a few months ago, and I'm supposed to start on May 8th. Any recommendations on what school I should go to and if waiting till September 25th is worth it?

@Jay mtz Congrats on the fall acceptance! I was also accepted to the May Concordia St. Paul start. I think OHSU has been my first preference, but now since I'm on the "highly likely" waitlist for OHSU, I might be going with CSP unless something opens up in the near future. I had a friend in the program a couple of years ago during the time that Concordia Portland shut down and St. Paul took the program over. My friend had a good experience in the program, though they were still on the Concordia Portland curriculum. I've also talked with someone who was in the program this past year, and they had generally favorable things to say. However, there have also been people online talking about being frustrated with a lack of organization in the program and other issues. I haven't been super happy with how I've been treated during the CSP application process, which is one of the reasons why I'm also interested in OHSU.

One thing about the CSP ABSN is that they contract with a for-profit company, Orbis Education (now owned by Grand Canyon Education) to administer the program. I think this is how the admissions counselors are employed. While it looks like there are a lot of ABSN programs that do this, I don't love having a for-profit company involved that way, and I wonder if it contributes to some of the frustrations I've had. It also looks like the CSP ABSN has expanded a lot in the last couple of years. According to the Oregon State Board of Nursing, the program went from 104 graduates in 2019 to 361 in 2021. But in the end, everyone I know in the nursing field says that the only thing that really matters is graduating from an accredited program and passing the NCLEX.

Hi! Wow, getting accepted after applying on a whim - good for you! I'm interested in what you find out so please share, I got accepted and placed into the Winter 2024 cohort and would consider starting in Fall if given the chance. I wonder if they would just move people off the waitlist if you deferred or if they'd ask those placed in other cohorts if they'd prefer to change their start date?

Again, congrats to everyone - the application process was intense and we should I be proud no matter what!

Sarah - I reached out to the admissions office and they said it is possible to switch cohorts/start date, but not defer to the next application cycle.

I'd let them know you'd like you start in fall. It sounds like there's a good chance they can make it happen. I contacted the admissions counselor via email.

Can anyone share the start date of the Ashland Summer 2023 ABSN cohort?

June 26th

Congrats to those who got accepted! Question, when does Portland's Fall 2023 and Winter 2024 cohort start? Also, when do you all need to submit a deposit to confirm your seats?

Hey all!

I was admitted to the ABSN for Winter but would like to start in the fall.... any chance any of you were admitted for Fall but would like to start in the Winter? Might be a long shot, but thought it'd be worth asking. Congrats to all who have been accepted so far!

I received an acceptance email for the fall 2023 ABSN cohort!  I applied on a bit of a whim, as I didn't have all of my prerequisites completed. As much as I'd love to go asap, I don't think I can swing a fall start date. Does anyone have experience with accepting a spot but deferring to the next cycle? Thanks!

Hey @KekePat! I was admitted for Winter and would prefer to start in the Fall ? Maybe we can switch spots!

They said they are putting together a waitlist for swaps/openings. Definitely contact the admissions coordinator!
