I am attending the ABSN program. I just re-read the paperwork and this specific initiative is for ABSN students only. It says students entering into any other OHSU program before the completion of the 2 year service agreement are not eligible. Hope this helps!

The hospital fund opportunity is a two year work agreement with OHSU in exchange for the cost of tuition. There are various requirements you need to agree to, ie obtaining employment within 90 days, payback terms if you are unable to fulfill 2 year commitment. I received the offer, but I am unsure of how they decide who receives it or if it is sent to all incoming students. As a former OHSU employee and a resident of Portland (with no plans to relocate) it seems like a fantastic opportunity!

They said they are putting together a waitlist for swaps/openings. Definitely contact the admissions coordinator! September 25th for fall.

Sarah - I reached out to the admissions office and they said it is possible to switch cohorts/start date, but not defer to the next application cycle. I'd let them know you'd like you start in fall. It sounds like there's a good chance they can make it happen. I contacted the admissions counselor via email.

"Whim" was not the best word to use! I wasn't sure how outstanding prerequisites would count against me, so I applied anyway just in case. I can technically finish them before fall, but between childcare and financing, a bit more time would just make life a lot smoother for our family. I'm going to check in with an advisor to see what my options are. Either bust a move for this fall, or if they won't save a space next admissions cycle I can apply again.

I received an acceptance email for the fall 2023 ABSN cohort! I applied on a bit of a whim, as I didn't have all of my prerequisites completed. As much as I'd love to go asap, I don't think I can swing a fall start date. Does anyone have experience with accepting a spot but deferring to the next cycle? Thanks!

Hello! Was anyone accepted for Fall or Summer 2022 cohort and able to successfully defer to this year? I was just accepted for Fall 2023 cohort and due to new circumstances I won't be able to start until Summer, but would be happy to wait until Fall 2024 if needed. Any insight from previous students? Thank you for such a thoughtful answer. I can see how a hybrid program works well with regard to flexibility. Great to hear they have weekly zooms as well as responsive professors! As with many programs I am sure success is based a lot on what a student does with the resources available. Thanks again! I appreciate it.

What has your experience been with the clinical portion? Since the lecture portions are asynchronous, have you found professors easy to reach/do they offer much support? Thanks!

I was wondering about this! Since the original post Concordia University closed (2020) and the only remaining program is the ABSN operating under Concordia St. Paul MN. I talked extensively with their admissions specialist and felt like they were trying to sell me on the program as though it was a used car. Most programs are highly competitive and do not lack applicants/interest, no need to sell it. Most surprising to me is tuition costs are comparable with OHSU's ASBN, but the entire program is asynchronous. I am very confused about how pre-recorded content can cost the same or be as effective as in-person instruction.
