Ohlone vs. City College of San Francisco Nursing Progam

I know nurses who graduated from both Ohlone and Chabot....Chabot apparently has the better program between those two but Ohlone is a good program. Don't know about CCSF.

Hi TazziRN,

I'm just curious, do you know what makes Chabot program better? I was planning on applying there as well, but since I got into Ohlone, I am no longer considering it.

Also when you look at a program, do you look at the kind of courses that they must offer in order to better prepare you for NCLEX or prepare you for being a good nurse? I'm curious what other factor to look for in a program.

Hi Everyone,
Has anybody attended any of these nursing program that can give me some advice? The Ohlone and CCSF program are in CA. I applied to both and got into the Ohlone nursing program still wating on CCSF. I'm so excited and can't wait to start. Any advice of current, alumni, or senior students from this program are greatly appreciated.

I have heard that the program at CCSF has a really solid reputation, and very strong clinical aspects. From what I understand, the students graduating from that program are in high demand. I don't know much about Ohlone. Part of may also depend upon where you live. CCSF has very early clinicals, so living a ways from the City might make for some really early mornings.

Chabot's clinicals are stronger. The nurse I know told me that hospitals in the East Bay would rather hire Chabot grads over other ADN grads.

Yes! I realized CCSF has early clinical and class--- most start at 7AM. From where I am, I would have to wake up about 4AM or 4:30Am in the morning in order to get there in time for class and clinical. I don't know how much of traveling becomes an issue once I am in nursing school. Anyone has similar experience on this? :idea:

I am graduating from Ohlone in December. I think it is a very good program. We always get complements at our clinical sites on how well prepared we are. Many of us already have jobs waiting at the much desired and hard to get new grad programs. I do know that Chabot is a good program also. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the 2 cents :lol2: . I glad to know senior students in the program. I just recieved my nursing package yesterday in the mail and if you recalled you probably had to go through getting the cpr, background check, and health clearance before you start the program. I have a question and hope if you know you could address it for me.

I need to take the CPR certificate and Ohlone requires that it lasts through dec. 2008. I signed up with heartshare for Dec. 2, 2006 class. When you finish the class, they give you a certificate that last for 2 years. If I take my class in Dec. 2, 2006, does the certicates says it will be valid until Dec 2008? or Dec. 2, 2008. I need to know because if I take my CPR class in dec. 2, 2006 and get the certificate, I want to make sure it is valid through dec 2008. If they put the date on there-- like dec. 2, 2008, that's not acceptable, in that case I have to change my class date. I called them and asked and they say that if I attended in dec. (any days) my certificate should last through dec 2008. Hope they provided me the correct info. What's your CPR certificate say? Thanks for your help.

Hi Hello Nurse! Make sure your card says Valid until a specific day such as 12/20/06 or something like that. If your card say 12/02/06 then you will need to renew before your last semester because the end of the semester is 12/15. Not that big of deal, because if you renew before last semester, then your set for awhile when you start working. Mine said 12/24 so I must renew in Jan. before I start work.
