Hey all!
I was wanting to throw this out there to gather any sentiments on the nursing programs at Ohlone College and Chabot College in the Bay Area.
Finally, I am at a point at which I can start applying to schools (yeay!), and I have both of these on my list among others. My hope right now is to get into Ohlone's program as I know they have an all new facility in Newark, and in general I hear it's a good program. It's also closest in location to me, so I hope to get in!
If anyone has any information, opinions, things you've heard about either or both of these programs, please share! I realize both schools are community colleges and use lottery systems to accept students, so I really have no say in what happens after I submit my application. At the same time, I am also concerned about the quality of the program I eventually end up in. Fat chance, but if I get selected for both and had to pick, what would convince me to go to one school or the other?
Thanks for your time!

I have two friends in the program and they both LOVE LOVE it! They have 100% pass rate too so I've heard or they boast about. I called some local HR deptartments at hospitals and ALL OF THEM said Ohlone produces the best nurses in Bay Area. Something to be said about that.
I applied to several school for this Fall and hoping I make Ohlone's. 3rd times a charm :)

Back when, a long, long time ago, my friend was not too happy with Chabot. But she took prerequisites there, not the nursing program and like I said, it was a long time ago. Things could have changed by now, hopefully for the good.

I'm applying to both this cycle, and CSUEB.. hoping the most for CSUEB :)
I have heard great things about both. Chabot and Ohlone both have excellent reputations, but I believe I have heard slightly more about Ohlone. Ohlone also has nicer, newer facilities and I think their NCLEX pass rate is a little higher.
Good luck!
tmoney... thanks for your thoughts! I actually had a bad experience just applying to Chabot, as I found them disorganized and not enthusiastic about their own program. I was put off by them, but I knew I just needed to apply EVERYWHERE, including there, to increase the chances of getting into nursing school. In the end, I was super fortunate to get into Ohlone's program, and I absolutely cannot wait to start. It is great to know that Ohlone is a very reputable nursing school in the area, and I have no doubt that I will be given a great education there. I will say a little prayer for you to get in! If you do, maybe I'll see you there! Best of luck and don't give up. We need more good nurses in the world... :anpom:
gottogetthere,
Congrats! My best girlfriend just started last semester. She loves it!!! I did not git in this time, otherwise I would have received an email from them. Oh well, I have Chabot and Napa to fall back on. Although, I really am not excited about Napa's program (I heard horrible things about it)
Best of luck to you and maybe next Spring I'll get into Ohlone :)

Congratulations! If I don't get into USF for Fall 2010, my back up is Ohlone Spring 2011 and CSU East Bay for Fall '11.
Wish me luck as I will for each of you!

Congratulations on getting in!! I'm actually a student in the Ohlone program right now, and I'm in my 3rd semester. I have to say I absolutely love this program, and the experience we are getting in the hospital is just incredible. The instructors are wonderful and are so enthusiastic and willing to teach and help you learn new concepts, and will meet with you anytime to clarify any questions/concerns. The Dean is also wonderful, and likes to check on the classes once in a while to see how everyone is doing. You will love it here, and the campus has state-of-the-art equipment in their lab room that's sometimes an upgrade from what you will see in the hospitals. Again, congratulations and I just may see you on campus soon!

I am Ohlone graduate. It’s very though program. MOST of the instructors are willing to help their students. Two of the instructors have personality disorder and students are the victims. Overall, I would say it is better than nothing.
Has anyone heard from Chabot yet?
I heard that Chabot is sending out letters on April 30.
Ohlone posted their lottery results on their website for Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 (I didn't make either) and Cal State East Bay sent out acceptance and waitlist letters last week.
xxx fingers for Chabot for me, otherwise, Napa it is.
