Ohlone College Fall 2011/Spring2012

U.S.A. California

Has anyone rec'd an acceptance e-mail yet? For the last 2 years they have e-mailed people the Friday after the app period closed. I was sure someone would've heard something by now. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for an acceptance e-mail! :)

I didnt get in either. I'm guessing I'm not on the waitlist. Did your email say anything about waitlist? Mine didnt...

Same here-it didn't say anything about being on a wait list or an alternate for that matter. I know they choose 40+ alternates usually...I guess we will just have to wait and see when the PDF is posted on the website! Maybe this just means Chabot will accept us? Haha

Let's keep our fingers crossed about Chabot! :)

I got waitlisted for Spring 2012. It's better than the string of rejection letters I have gotten. But I'm #16 on a 36 waitlist. Chances are very slim that 16 people will decide not to attend Ohlone. When I went to her office she told me last year only about 5-9 people on the waitlist got to replace those who declined.

I hope 16 people don't want to attend! haha :p

Chabot supposedly won't mail there's until May 30th I believe, and Merritt won't until May 16th. And yes, Let's keep our fingers crossed!

Did your letter say waitlisted on it then? Mine didnt say anything about a waitlist so it looks like no Ohlone for me this year. :(

My entire email was marked "waitlisted for Spring 2012" haha. So before I opened it, I was guessing I was waitlisted for 2012...

But JenApos! Please don't be discouraged! You still have 5 other AA's that have not replied yet, keep your head up!

But the content of the email had a letter attachment that spelled out what number I was and how many were already in the program. I wonder if people drop out of the fall 2011 class, do the spring 2012 cohort move up also? Or am I only waitlisted for Spring 2012?! This is confusing.

Yes, if people reject Fall 2011, the Spring 2012 people will be moved up.

CalState...please consider yourself only waitlisted for Spring 2012...if that. I was number 10 on Ohlone's wait list last year. So from May to January I waited with nervous hope that I would get the call...it never came. I don't want to discourage you, rather prepare you for possible heartache. I left my options open last year, turning down a well paying job offer because I thought I might get in to nursing school. I really, really regret that.

A friend of mine was accepted into the Spring 2011 program at Ohlone and was in a holding pattern all summer for possibly starting Fall 2010. She ended up starting Spring 2011...and thankfully didn't have to scramble to find childcare at the last minute.

Congrats on making it this far, but be cautiously optimistic. Ohlone sounds like a great program and I hope you get in.

CharmantUn, thank you for your warning. It was thoughtful. But I was well aware of that possibility arising. At first I was also very worried if I could get into any nursing school. But luckily, SJSU accepted me for their BSN nursing program! I am estatic, SJSU is a very decent school.

I hope you also get into the school of nursing of your choice. :)

Congratulations to you:yeah:. Do you mind sharing your GPA and TEAS score, just to see if I have any chances in getting in, I will be applying this fall.

Haha *scratches head* Mine are not that impressive. I'm thankful to get into the SJSU BSN program!

Prerequisite GPA: 3.46

Composite GPA: 3.5

Teas: 92%

They don't count overall GPA, which mine was 3.26. :uhoh3:

My advice would definitely get the A's and nothing less. For teas, go for 100% and I think it's best to study 10-15 days before the Teas V test to retain the fresh information. That's just my opinion though.

They have a minimum cut off, i.e. everyone who has certain score in the four core pre-requisite classes (English, A&P, Microbio) is entered into the lottery. Don't worry--it's a pretty low cut off--much lower than the criteria for most BSN programs. Just try to avoid repeating these four classes or getting a "W" because you will be dinged. Obviously As and Bs are the way to go for these classes. If you want to calculate your own score, this formula was developed by the California's Community College Chancellor's office. Google it...all community colleges in CA with nursing programs are using it.

Ohlone will explain it in much greater detail at the orientation that is mandatory in order to apply. After you attend the orientation in the Fall (check their website around November), you will be instructed to take Ohlone's own reading assessment test. It's simple and you shouldn't have any problems if you are a native speaker. If you pass the accuplacer test, you will then meet with a counselor who will calculate your GPA and score in front of you. Only after all that, can someone submit an application in early April. The TEAS is not given until after you are accepted.

Ohlone does have a few extra hoops to jump through in order to apply, but I think it keeps the applicant pool down and increases your odds of getting in. Compare Ohlone's pool of 236 to CCSF, which had 742 re-applicants and 611 new applicants this year!
