Ohio State University Direct Entry MSN Thread Spring 2015

Published

Hello! I am starting a thread for all applicants for the OSU direc-entry MSN!

Hopefully we can keep each other sane through this process. I would love to hear about the experiences of others!

I had my interview today... pretty sure I bombed question number four. I did not like the LikeLive interview process. I don't know if interacting with a computer really demonstrates your personality and I think personality is an important factor to gauge appropriately if you're going to be working as a nurse.

How did your interviews go?

I think the interview went ok. One question caught me off guard but I regained composure quickly. I am trying to just be patient and wait for a decision.

I applied for midwifery; what specialty did you choose?

Hello everyone,

I had my interview on November 12th. It went okay but I accidentally skipped question #2. I can say I like the LikeLive process now that I have done it, but I did not feel I was my most comfortable while I interviewed....anyway, glad it's over!

@CraftyCats: I applied for midwifery also! I added in my application that I want to complete the women's health specialty track before graduating with midwifery. I hope we get in and can meet on orientation day!

I am very passionate about women's health

@angelfish33: Can you double up on specialties?

I am so excited to get our admission decisions and meet people.

When was your interview? I applied for Family Medicine... pretty nervous about it. I felt confident based on my application alone, but I am fairly sure my interview was full of fail.

At some of the information sessions we were told to expect to hear back before Christmas. I certainly hope so. Honestly, waiting is worse than knowing I possibly did not get in.

How did you skip a question? I wish I did, it probably would have improved my chances :p

@hungrystudent

I was too nervous! LOL I clicked on question 3 after I answered question 1 and immediately the system advanced me forward past question 2. I called one of the OSU graduate admission counselors and she told me not to worry about it. She said lots of people had a few snags with LikeLive.

Anyway, I am glad we were invited to do the interviews at all :) Here's hoping we all get in!!!

@CraftyCats: yep! I spoke with one of the graduate counselors before I submitted my application and she informed me that I needed to state in my essay my intent to study midwifery and women's NP. Also, combining specialties adds a year to the program. This is not a problem for me as the program fits into my life goals so well (also, not married and no kids really helps in terms of being able to give full time commitment).

For me, becoming a CNM and WHNP is a part of my passion for women's health advocacy...I simply could not pass up an opportunity to study both!

(I just need someone to remind me of this when I am up to my eyeballs in classes and patients...if I get in!!!! Knock on wood :banghead: )

Where else did everyone apply? I only applied to OSU this application cycle. I'll apply to more in the spring if I don't get in.

For this application cycle, I too only applied to OSU. There aren't a lot of CNM/WHNP programs out there to choose from, so for my chosen specialty the field is quite narrow (if you're taking the direct-entry route).

Right now, I prefer to think VERY positive thoughts about getting into OSU next spring. However, if I am not selected, I will regroup and consider my options at that time....

I only applied to OSU. I'm trying to just hold on to positive thoughts and plan on getting accepted. If I don't, I will examine my options at that time.

I also really considered women's health... it's such an awesome field!

I asked the admissions office and they said we should hear something back by the end of this month, but if not, it will be the end of January at the latest.

THE SUSPENSE!!!!!
